Europeanul rus şi Evgheni Oneghin

One of the problems the people of Russian extraction have been confronted with during the past centuries is their affiliation to either the Western or the Eastern Europe. Their relationship with the West is a highly controversial issue. On the one hand, it implies their assignation of Western European theories and the idealization of the West, and on the other hand, it means their moving away from the West and even the adoption of an anti-European stance. The article focuses on A.S. Homiakov’s and N.M. Karamzin’s opinions and views on these matters. The idea of a genuine Europeanism is born out of the overcoming of the nationalistic seclusion of each national culture. The term “European Russian” is explained through F.M. Dostoevsky’s, G.P. Fedotov’s, and V.S. Soloviov’s perspective. The article studies to what extent the main hero of the novel Evgheni Onegin can claim the name of “Russian Europe”.
