Introduction Within the past decade, especially after 2G standards appeared, the mobile telephone industry in China has experienced a dramatic growth with the number of mobile subscribers increasing considerably each year. By the summer of 2001, the number of mobile subscribers in China exceeded that in the US for the first time, with around 200 million subscribers (or about 20% of the world total), making China the largest market for mobile telephones in the world.
