Zusammenfassung:The progress of digital audio over the author's career is examined and compared to the speedups predicted by Moore's law. Then extrapolating over the next 20 years, it is concluded that the main problem facing digital audio engineers will not be how to perform a particular manipulation on sound, but how the amount of power that will be available at that time can possibly be controlled. A number of examples will be presented of computations that were not feasible at the time they were conceived, but may well become routine with pedaflop processors.
