However, both genre studies and the study of information of today recognize that categorization is a very situated and localized activity and categorization as such cannot be an end in itself. Modern genre theory has developed theories, methods and concepts that go beyond simple categorization issues and has turned to questions of, for instance, typified communicative actions, activity systems or structuration in order to understand the production and use of texts or knowledge. The study of information needs to take consequence of these developments.
