Zusammenfassung:This paper provides a holistic approach to assess performance of perforated wood shear walls with large openings. This approach incorporates the ENVISION sustainability rating system to assess the impacts of openings on both architectural and structural characteristics of wood shear walls. These characteristics relate to various functions of an opening, such as lighting and insulation, as well as strength and ductility requirements of the shear wall. Analyzing wood shear walls subject to extreme loading, such as earthquake-induced excitations, provides an opportunity to assess the resilience of the system. Comparison of such assessment with the code-based approach to performance-based design of perforated wood shear walls allows architects and engineers to gain more insights about sustainability and resilience of the system as one unit.
