VPRS 9606 Subject and Nominal Index Cards to General Correspondence Files

This series indexed subjects and authors of correspondence which is now contained in VPRS 3844 General Correspondence Files (Alphabetically Re-arranged Inactive Portion of VPRS 6008 pre 1928 Files, Single Number System and VPRS 6008 General Correspondence Files, Annual Single Number Systems. The series appears to have complemented the indexing function of the classified register, VPRS 6009 Classified Registration Cards for General Correspondence. For each item of correspondence, cards in VPRS 9606 series recorded the number, author or subject, and the title of the relevant card in VPRS 6009. It appears that this series, with its alphabetical listings of correspondence by subject and author, was used as an alternative and possibly quicker method of locating correspondence than the classified index. | Provider's Access Rights: Open
