Part One follows the forensic archaeologists and anthropologists who work to locate, exhume, identify, and repatriate the remains of Cypriots killed in episodes of violence and buried in secret graves before and during the war, from 1963 to 1974. Specifically, this section follows Davis's ethnographic work with Cyprus's Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), a bi-communal body established under UN auspices that is charged with determining the location and identity of the bodies of over two thousand Cypriots who went missing during the violence of the 1960s and 70s. Part Two addresses the visual archive of violence in Cyprus. Davis traces the development of an aesthetics of the archive in Cypriot films and how this archive has been used in artistic and political projects of reckoning with the past through documentary film. The two parts are juxtaposed as ways of trying to reconstruct and narrate the past, in what is both an epistemological and ethnographic consideration of representation, science, and ethnography itself"-- | |

Davis's Artifactual explores two different kinds of knowledge-making through an engagement with forensic science and documentary filmmaking in post-war Cyprus. The two parts are juxtaposed as ways of trying to reconstruct and narrate the past, in what is both an epistemological and ethnographic consideration of representation, science, and ethnography itself"--</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Konflikt</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4032081-9</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vergangenheitsbewältigung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4061672-1</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Teilung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4200719-7</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Zypern</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4079596-2</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Committee of Relatives of Turkish Cypriot Missing Persons</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Forensic sciences / Social aspects / Cyprus</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Documentary films / Political aspects / Cyprus</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE / Anthropology / Cultural & Social</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">HISTORY / Europe / General</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Cyprus / History / 1960- / Documentation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Cyprus / Social conditions / 1960- / Documentation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Cyprus / Politics and government / 1960-2004</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Zypern</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4079596-2</subfield><subfield code="D">g</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Konflikt</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4032081-9</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Teilung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4200719-7</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="3"><subfield code="a">Vergangenheitsbewältigung</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4061672-1</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Erscheint auch als</subfield><subfield code="n">Online-Ausgabe</subfield><subfield code="d">Durham : Duke University Press, 2023</subfield><subfield code="z">978-1-4780-2445-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=034368152&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Literaturverzeichnis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=034368152&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Register // Gemischte Register</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="940" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="n">oe</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="940" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="q">BSB_NED_20231207</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="999" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">oai:aleph.bib-bvb.de:BVB01-034368152</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="942" ind1="1" ind2="1"><subfield code="c">909</subfield><subfield code="e">22/bsb</subfield><subfield code="f">0905</subfield><subfield code="g">5693</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="942" ind1="1" ind2="1"><subfield code="c">909</subfield><subfield code="e">22/bsb</subfield><subfield code="f">0904</subfield><subfield code="g">5693</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
