SUMMARIES Yulia V. Sineokaya Voices of Philosophers. Editor s Preface The article analyses the generational approach to the study of the formation of the philosophical tradition. The philosophical generation is a powerful intellectual pattern with its own optics, problems, and research methods. The author distinguishes six phil osophical generations living and working in Russia today. The specificity of the philo sophical generation is determined by the existential contribution to philosophy of peo ple who were close to each other in their experience of discipleship and integration into formal and informal philosophical institutions, and by the shared intellectual founda tion. In the case of the philosophical generation, we are not just talking about the age of those who “make philosophy”, but about the emergence of new problems and a new attitude to philosophy itself, the production or mastery of new ideas and meanings, new trends in the treatment of already familiar problems and phenomena, a new social and cultural role for philosophy, a new understanding of the world and of man in general, a change in what is called a “philosophical way of life”. The study of philosophical gen erations is important for restoring the human context of the development of philoso phy. The path of cognition from generational type to texts is no less important than the familiar path from texts. Reading the history of philosophy as a history of philosophi cal generations will focus researchers’ attention on the personal ties within the philo sophical community (horizontal and vertical),
which will shed light on both the indi vidual contributions of thinkers and the mutual influences that determine the birth and development of philosophical ideas. Keywords: history of philosophy, philosophical generations, Russian philosophy, philosophy of Soviet period, Institute of Philosophy RAS.
S ummaries 1198 Sergei N. Korsakov Soviet Philosophers of the 1920s Generation An attempt is made to present a collective portrait of Soviet philosophers of the 1920s generation. The main attention is paid to the school of dialectics, followers of academician A. Μ. Deborin, which was leading in Soviet philosophy at that time. The article describes the intellectual and administrative results of the representatives of this school in the development and institutionalization of philosophy in Russia. Virtually all members of the generation of Soviet philosophers of the 1920s died as a result of Sta lins repressions. It describes the difficulties of finding sources in relation to the activi ties of philosophers who became victims of Stalins repressions and the author s personal experience in overcoming these difficulties. Fragments of memoirs are presented which reconstruct the appearance of the most prominent philosophers of Deborins school. Some common features are highlighted in the image of Deborins generation of philos ophers. In the period of personality formation, it was the desire for philosophical edu cation against the background of overcoming unfavorable initial social conditions. In its brief creative heyday, it was a public accentuation of a personal philosophical posi tion as an intellectual and moral conviction. In the situation of the Stalinist dungeons, it was the ability to remain human in the face of inhumane conditions. The author speaks of life and moral choices as the main challenge to the philosophical generation of the 1920s. He contrasts those who
remained among the persecuted with those who proved capable of helping the persecutors in word and deed. Keywords·. Soviet philosophy, generation of the 1920s, Deborins school, Stalins repression. Sergei N. Korsakov Philosophers of the War Generation The article attempts to recreate the image of the generation of philosophers of the war years by means of “editing” on the basis of memoirs and documents. What were they like, the philosophers who went to the war front? How did the state use philosophers in war? What experience did philosophers gain during the war years, and how did it change them? What were the philosophers like when they returned from the war? What kind of generational type emerged as a result? What was the impact of its representatives on the life of the country and the philosophical community? Keywords: Soviet philosophy, Great Patriotic war, war generation. David I. Dubrovskiy On my Philosophical Generation of the 1950s, Philosophy and Philosophers. Facts and Reflections The article elucidates the peculiarities of the philosophical generation of the 1950s. The examination is based on examples from the authors biography and on the activities
Nikolay I. Lapin On the Pivotal Generation of Russian Philosophers of the 20th Century The author examines the professional implications and social significance of the activities mainly of the circle of philosophers close to his age (born between 1924 and 1936), with whom he communicated and interacted. He pays particular attention to those whose creative contributions formed the core of what is called the generation the sixties — E. V. Ilyenkov and V. I. Korovikov; A. A. Zinoviev; Μ. K. Mamardashvili; I. V. Blauberg, В. A. Grushin and others. According to the author, their contribution to the development of Russian philosophy in the 20th century consists in substantiat ing and asserting the pivotal turn of philosophers’ research from dogmatic-citational mode of argumentation to independently (“with ones own mind”) comprehensible, log ically convincing methods of dialectics of knowledge of the objects under study. The well-known theses of the “gnoseologists” and the discussions around the position of the authors and their like-minded people became the field of an uncompromising strug gle for the approval of the turn. In this struggle, the authors of the “theses” and other participants in the core of the sixties had not only the opposition of dogmatic profes sionals and party ideological staff, but also the active support of various groups of inde pendently thinking young philosophers who then contributed to the sixties and to the self-affirmation and development of socio-humanitarian disciplines related to philoso phy. The ideas of the pivotal generation of
philosophers influenced the dissatisfaction of intellectuals with the stagnation of Soviet society, which culminated in the attempt ed “perestroika”. At the same time, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, a turn rooted in the pivotal generation persists and continues in the activities of many philosophers in contemporary Russia: a rejection of dogmatism and willingness to pursue their pro fessional vocation independently and creatively. 1199 S ummaries of many prominent philosophers and scientists of the time, taking into account the momentous social and political conditions related to the death of Stalin, the “Khrush chev thaw”, and other events that influenced the revival of philosophical life. It manifest ed itself in a visible renewal of philosophical issues, the emergence of discussions on the key problems of dialectical materialism (questions of the theory of knowledge and the methodology of science, the problem of the ideal, the relationship between individual and social consciousness, the natural and the social, the physiological and the mental). In this connection, the issues of the author s well-known discussion with E. V. Ilyenkov, the materials of the critical review of the Zagorsk experiment are highlighted. The arti cle provides answers to a number of questions posed to the participants of the project by its leader, Y. V. Sineokaya. Keywords·, philosophical generation of the 1950s, its peculiarities, renewal of philo sophical issues in the second half of the 1950s, methodology of science, psyche and the brain, the natural and the social, problem of
the ideal, social and individual conscious ness, concept of subjective reality.
S ummaries 1200 Keywords: pivotal generation of Russian philosophers, eddy turbulence, turn of thinking with ‘ones own mind’, theses of gnoseologists’, active support groups, self-asser tion of related disciplines, rooting the turnaround. Galina L Belkina So Far Back in 1948... Memoirs of philosophical life in the 1940s and 1990s. The article tells about studying at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University, about the bright professors of the faculty and student life. The innovative role of the journal “Voprosy filosofii” in the 1960s and 1970s is noted, and cooperation with German philosophers is mentioned. The article analyzes the problem field of philosophy of those years, its expansion, including the philosophy of global problems, bioethics, the problems of the new humanism, cre ation of the Institute of Man. The author notes the influence on the philosophical com munity of the textbook “Vvedenie v filosofiyu”, created by prominent representatives of the philosophical generation, the leader of which was academician I. T. Frolov, and a new definition of philosophy as “the doctrine of the world and man” given in this text book. The significance of the XIX World Congress of Philosophy and the Russian phil osophical congresses initiated by I. T. Frolov is considered. Keywords: Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University, “Voprosy filosofii”, philosophy of the GDR, Deutschlandsberg symposiums, I. T. Frolov, textbook “Vvede nie v filosofiyu”, XIX World Congress of Philosophy in Moscow, Russian philosophical congresses. Andrei D. Sukhov Starting in the
1950s... Small everyday needs, created initially by the external environment, become the norm and habit. This provides additional opportunities for spiritual and ideological search, but a certain one-sidedness of the personality comes with it, and it is far from the “perfect individual”. Keywords: war and post-war everyday life, social uplift, life attitudes, philosophical search, Institute of Philosophy as a pole of attraction, research work in a changing envi ronment: incentives and challenges, positivity and frustrations. Abdusalam A. Guseynov Philosophy of the Sixties Generation as a Social Phenomenon In its main part, the article focuses on Soviet philosophy of the sixties. It is preced ed by a preface, which treats belonging to a generation as a sign of fate, and ends with an afterword, according to which the past is not to be judged. Belonging to a genera tion is the stamp of time on individual destinies. The author belongs to the generation
Vladislav A. Lektorsky My Philosophical Generation The article distinguishes biological, socio-psychological and philosophical genera tions. In the case of the latter, it is not simply the age of those who make philosophy, but of the emergence of new philosophical issues and a new attitude towards philosophy itself, an understanding of its cultural role, of what is called the “philosophical way of life”. The article examines the dramatic history of the life and work of the generation of people who began to determine the philosophical life of the country since the late 1950s. The author analyzes the results of the activity of this generation and substantiates the thesis that Russian philosophy developed under the sign of this generation throughout the second half of the 20th century and that the representatives of this generation have had already a significant impact on the philosophical life of our country during the last two decades of the 21st century. The article depicts the present-day significance of the ideas put forward by representatives of this generation. Keywords: philosophy, generation, theory of knowledge, philosophical anthropol ogy, human science, Institute of Philosophy, “Voprosy Philosophii”. Erikh Yu. Solov ev Philosophers of the Sixties : the Post-War Brotherhood of Fathers and Children The article analyzes two “sub-generations” that became part of the Soviet “philoso phers of the sixties”. The first were young intellectuals from the front line, who had been enlightened by the war. The author recounts their hopes, already foreshadowed by a 1201 S
ummaries of Soviet philosophers who directly followed the generation of the sixties and got lost in their shadow. It shows how they are seen from this close distance. They represented the renewal of philosophy in the Soviet Union in the second half of the twentieth cen tury. It is shown that it began at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow University in the form of opposition of young researchers to dogmatically minded professors, that at its origins were Evald Ilyenkov and Alexander Zinoviev, two outstanding thinkers who set the speculative-dialectical and scientific-analytical lines of development of philosophical research. The philosophy of the sixties was humanist-oriented and emerged as a defini tive break from the philosophical dogmatism of the 1930s and 1940s; it provided a the oretical basis for the process of de-Stalinization started in the country. It was represent ed by a large number of original theories of thought and action, inspired by ideas of the sovereignty of the human mind and the self-responsible existence of an individual. The philosophy of the sixties remained loyal to Marx’s doctrine and the socialist ideal, exist ing as it did alongside official orthodoxy while internally resisting it. Keywords: generation, philosophy, philosophers of the sixties, thinking, Marxism, de-Stalinization, ideology, dogmatism, humanism, Evald Ilyenkov, Alexander Zinoviev, Georgy Shchedrovitsky, Merab Mamardashvili, assessment of the past.
S ummaries 1202 “thaw”; their stoic moral composure and courageous protest behaviour in the scientific and ideological debates of the late Stalinist time. Further, the life of the “younger growth” of the future “philosophers of the sixties”, — schoolchildren of the late forties — early 50s, is thoroughly covered: fatherlessness and opposition to its corrupting influence; the understanding of study as a sacred duty to warrior-fathers; the formation of a peculiar cult of education, knowledge and science. Particular attention is paid to the treatment of the classical literary heritage, which was set by the school, and to the “reading circle” of post-war youth. The Faculty of Philosophy of the mid-50s became a meeting place for graduates of the post-war school with Marxist dogmatists. Ihis is where the event that marks the beginning of the long-term informal community of Soviet “philosophers of the sixties” takes place. The discussion on the subject of philosophy started in 1954 by the young teachers E. V. Ilyenkov, A. A. Zinoviev and V. I. Korovikov (demobilized “lieutenants” of the Second World War). Ihe discussion was a not unsuccessful attempt at a philosophical reformation of Marxism. Two years before the 20th Congress of the CPSU, which called for the restoration of Leninist norms of life, it called for a return to Marxist norms of thought. Keywords: generations, ideology, criticism of dogmatism, Marxism and neo-Marxism, stoicism, reformation, E. V. Ilyenkov, Z. A. Kamensky, I. T. Frolov. Nelly V. Motroschilova Of my Generation The article is devoted to the generation of
the sixties. On the basis of personal rec ollections and the testimony of contemporaries, the author presents a generalized por trait of the intellectuals of that period and reflects on how they proved themselves in their philosophical life and philosophical creativity. Ihe philosophers of the sixties are presented as a philosophically unified generation, defined by the similarity of orienta tions, values, and attitudes that are clearly visible in everything they did in their profes sion. Along with an analysis of the intellectual life of the Faculty of Philosophy at Mos cow State University and the central themes developed by colleagues at the Institute of Philosophy, the author describes the functioning of the unorthodox philosophical com munities of the 1960s. Special attention is paid to the interaction of philosophers of the sixties and cultural figures of that era. Keywords: generation of philosophers, communication, philosophical discussions, Institute of Philosophy RAS. Marietta T. Stepanyanzt A Generation Open to the World Although much had been written about the generation of the sixties, the realistic “canvas” of the phenomenon has not yet completed. Not everybody is drawn accurately;
Svetlana S. Neretina The Dissenters When analyzing generational change, generic terms such as “generational rupture” or “conflict” are most often used, although in fact socially significant change involves a change in the entire frame of mind. Alienation from a previous civilization or culture comes from a diflerent understanding of reality as the replacement and destruction of the actual by the virtual, which becomes one of the viruses and which does not look to the past for help. According to Baudrillard, there is no communication in the real world, “things become too real”, one finds oneself in “excessive proximity to things” carrying a viral infection. A virus is information itself and a destructor of information. Philosoph ical teachings created in the previous civilization, but analyzed in the situation of the new virtuality, can be presented as signs of a long-standing social discontent with the situation, characteristic of people who do not see their opponent and do not receive a decent response within the framework of critical thought. Keywords: generation, virus, tradition, methodology, dissenter, dialogue of cultures, hybridity, freedom, necessity, risk, another start, probabilistic path of knowledge. Vadim Μ. Rozin How I See the Contribution of my Generation to Philosophy In the article the author, on the one hand, recalls representatives of the generation of the sixties with whom he was involved as a philosopher, more precisely the “Moscow Methodological Circle”, and on the other hand, undertakes an analysis of well-known figures of the methodological movement
(Alexander Zinoviev, Merab Mamardashvili, Georgy Shchedrovitsky), as well as of the important contribution of this group of talented thinkers to Russian philosophy. It shows that, as a rule, the listed thinkers were important personalities and original thinkers, and time and its vicissitudes played a big role in this. Keywords: thinking, personality, time, methodology, semiotics, activity, contribu tion, development. 1203 S ummaries not always putting forward some at the expense of others, caught in the shadows, is jus tified. This article is about the role of those who influenced the development of academ ic studies of eastern philosophies in our country. For the young scholars who joined the Institute of Philosophy by the early 1960s, the senior generation of so called shestidesyatniki became the standard of high morality, demonstrating honesty, determination to resist and overcome dogmatism in all its manifestations. They embarked on the path of openness to the world, revealing and demonstrating the uniqueness and diversity of eastern cultures, in general, and their philosophical traditions, in particular. Keywords: philosophy, oriental studies, shestidesyatniki, Eurocentrism, dogmatism, ideology, openness to the world.
S ummaries 1204 Nataliya I. Kuznetzova The Embers of Memory The article, in the focus of intellectual autobiography, examines the worldview development of a young man who graduated from the Philosophy Faculty of Moscow State University in 1970. The circle of reading and communication of that period is presented, it is told about those outstanding philosophers, publicists and journalists of the 60-70s of the XX century, under whose influence his professional development took place. Particular attention is paid to the story about the originality of the work of the Moscow Methodological Circle, the leader of which was George P. Shchedrovitsky. The main task of the Circle was to put under reflexive control all acts of reason ing and mental operations: nominations, definitions, descriptions, building ontologi cal models and theoretical constructions, etc. To some extent, this was reminiscent of the search for Western analytical philosophy, and in the Soviet Union it was a “suspi cious” affair in an ideological sense. The main socially significant events of those times that determined the formation of socio-political views of young people who did not accept Soviet ideology are highlighted. Pruzhynin We are the Generation of the Sixties The author of the article attempts to clarify the specifics of the views of the genera tion of philosophers of the sixties on the basis of his
personal experience. According to the author, the outlook and personality traits of this generation are based on experienc ing and comprehending the events of national history of the 1950s, related to the expo sure of the personality cult of Stalin and the “thaw” phenomenon. These events enabled the generation of the sixties to form a worldview based on a rethinking of their views above all, spiritual independence. Against the backdrop of a generation’s fate, whose acme coincided with the 1970s and 1990s, it is about being able to bind the times even when the machine of a powerful and, as it seemed to many at the time, perpetual empire was working “to the breaking point”. Vladimir K. Shokhin My 1970s The author shares his personal impressions of the atmosphere at the Philosophy Department of Moscow State University in the 1970s, highlighting such symbolic fig ures as A. Μ. Pyatigorsky, V. S. Sementsov, O. E Volkova, and S. S. Averintsev. The popu lar idea of this era as an era of stagnation is criticized: in the official state ideology, there was not stagnation, but decay, whereas in the humanities, it was not stagnation, but flour ishing. The author also touches upon such topics as the conditions under which one can speak about the philosophical generation or only about a certain atmosphere among those who are engaged in philosophy or study it, as well as the reasons why the modern Russian philosophical community as a whole, distances itself from the analytical tradi tion and is much more receptive to various “post-metaphysics”. Lysenko No One Can Set a Person Free The author reflects on the fate of his generation — a generation of Philosophy Department graduates in 1976 — against the background of his own personal histo ry, trying to understand and explain why, almost 30 years after the collapse of Soviet power, after the discovery of the
monstrous truth about its crimes, after the fall of the Iron Curtain and liberation from the dictates of “the only right” ideology, people of different generations who lived under the “Soviet Union” and even very young peo ple born after the collapse of the USSR, are nostalgic for the Soviet regime? How is it possible to know about the Gulag and still erect monuments to Stalin? Why, after an experience of freedom and a brief but still normal human life, do we have to defend our freedom and human dignity again? And how come the country failed to seize the unique chance to transform itself and become part of the world, and instead fell back on the rails of isolation and xenophobia? One of the important reasons for this is the prevalence of social infantilism in contemporary Russia, a consequence of the genetic legacy of serfdom and “wild” individualism, with no sense of responsibility towards “others”. S ummaries 1206 sixties and the seventies. It is shown that logicians and methodologists of science had their own special place in the general systemic movement of the sixties in our country. Ihe paper stresses that the logicians of the sixties actually fought for the right to have classical formal logic in the country and, at the same time, for the right to correspond to the world level of logical development. Ihe article demonstrates the influence of the sixties on the shaping of the intellectual biographies of logicians of the seventies, who, among other things, were engaged in the scientific-theoretical study and teaching of three apparently different areas of logic that emerged in the West in the seventies: crit ical thinking, informal logic, and argumentation theory. It is shown that a small group of university friends-logicians, as it were, divided in their research on these three areas of logic development, while at the same time being present, to some extent, in each of them. Ihe particular system of human relations that developed between those of the six ties and the seventies, between teachers and students, and within each of the subgroups in the general atmosphere at the Philosophy Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University in the 1970s is presented. Nikolsky An Opportunity Offered Itself to Find out how Life Really Works... (About myself as part of the generation that lived in the mid-80s — mid-90s of the last century)
The fascinating and multifaceted world of the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences, later the RAS, as it was in the mid-80s and mid-90s, is shown through the eyes of a graduate student and then a researcher. As a postgraduate student at the Critique of Contemporary Western Bourgeois Philosophy department, the author combined his studies and preparation of a PhD thesis in it with an interested work in the sector of philosophical questions of biology, since he was engaged in the topic of the biological foundations of human behaviour on the example of the philosophy of American naturalism. Ihe author studied, collaborated and was friends with R. S. Kar pinskaya, T. A. Kuzmina, N. S. Yulina, V. Μ. Mezhuyev, G. S. Batishchev, A. I. Aleshin, E. Yu. Solovyov. Subsequently, the work on the dissertation extended to cover the rela tionship between man and nature, including the practical agrarian activities of Soviet man. In this, in keeping with the spirit of the times, a significant role was played by the central party organs and the initiative of the peoples academician I. S. Maltsev. Coop eration with economists E. E Saburov, A. V. Chernyavskiy and others, with agrarian historians and ecologists V. P. Danilov, T. Shanin, V. I. Kiryushin resulted the author s being invited to the Government of Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine) in 1994, where he had an opportunity to study in detail the condition and development prospects of agrarian-industrial complex on the peninsula. On this basis the author prepared a
Irina I. Blauberg History of Philosophy as a Choice and Path The article describes the circumstances that influenced the authors choice of philos ophy as a profession. The historical and philosophical specialization chosen at the Fac ulty of Philosophy determined all the author’s further activities in the journals “Voprosy Filosofii” and “Puť”, and later — at the Institute of Philosophy RAS. The article shows the role played by “Voprosy Filosofii” during the Soviet period, how the work of the journal was structured, and what changes had taken place by the end of the 1980s. The author recounts the stages of her scholarly work — the study of Bergson’s philosophy and the concepts of his predecessors, the representatives of 19th century French spiritualism. Keywords: history of philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University, “Voprosy Filosofii” journal, “Puť ” journal, Institute of Philosophy RAS, Bergson’s concept. Olga P. Zubets Generation of Losses (essay on a given topic) Generation is a sociological concept and by virtue of this alone it is inapplicable to philosophy, understood as an exclusively personal, subjective matter, as a particular way of life in the realm of self-sufficient thought. The philosopher does not see himself as belonging to the philosophical generation as a certain set of philosophers (although he belongs to his generation as a social being). The philosophical generation is a super fluous concept for the philosopher, for it is embodied in him, in his uniqueness. How ever, when asked about his own philosophical generation, the author
defines it as a “gen eration of losses” (different from the lost generation). Its losses are numerous: the loss of a single philosophical foundation, a single conceptual language, a single set of com mented texts (quotes), the loss of a social future — utopia, an ideal perspective, and even the loss of demand in the public space, the consciousness of self-importance — this is the loss of what the generation of the sixties had. The generation that can be associated with Perestroika did not become the generation of the revolution (which confirms the understanding of what happened as the final stage of a long process of counter-revolu tion) and is deprived of the anti-bourgeois pathos that has been the value basis of phi losophy since at least the 19th century. Keywords: generation, philosophy, Marxism, Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University, Institute of Philosophy, ethics, loss. 1207 Summaries programme of agrarian reforms for Crimea, which unfortunately was not implemented due to the crisis of presidential power and the subsequent resignation of the “Mos cow government”. How this is seen in a quarter of a century’s time, with many friends and colleagues no longer alive, is the subject of this text. Summaries 1208 Marina F. Bykova Finding yourself: sketches for a portrait of my generation In response to a project of recreating the living dynamics of the philosophical histo ry in modern Russia by examining intellectual pursuits of successive generations of phi losophers, this article focuses on the generation of the eighties, the cohort of those who entered their professional lives in the late 1970s — mid 1980s. The goal of the article is to identify the key inspirations, aims, hopes, and ambitions that have become fundamental for this philosophical generation, with which the author associates herself. The explora tion of the philosophical generation of the eighties is preceded by a detailed discussion of the generational theory developed in the 1990s by the American historians William Strauss and Neil Hove and widely used in the contemporary philosophy of history. The author also discusses the phenomenon of philosophical generation and examines to what degree this concept could be used as a criterion for the development of philosophical thought in a particular period of time that coincides with the time frame of the philos ophizing of a single generation. The offered analysis of the main characteristics of the philosophical generation of the eighties is largely the result of the author’s own reflec tions on her personal experience of immersing in philosophy and philosophical thought. Kara-Murza Of our Generation The text of the chief researcher of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Acad emy of Sciences, who joined the Institute in the late 1980s and was secretary of the Institute’s Komsomol committee in the first half of the 1980s, describes the fate of the “generation of the eighties” who entered Russian philosophy in the crucial era of a new, this time Gorbachev’s, “thaw”. The author recalls the upbeat and inspiring atmosphere of those years, the numerous (previously quite unthinkable) scientific and creative ini tiatives by young people at the Institute during the perestroika and the first post-Soviet years. The author shares memories of his teachers and mentors, as well as those of his young friends and colleagues who now make up the “elite” of the Institute of Philosophy. Vadim V. Vasilyev Generation of Free Russia In the article, the author reflects on the Moscow generation of the nineties, start ing from personal memories and his own philosophical career. It has been argued that it was the generation of the nineties that experienced Russia’s transition from totalitar ianism to freedom in the late 1980s and early 1990s with the greatest consequences for themselves. The author argues, in particular, that this experience is responsible for the individualism inherent in many members of this generation. The article discusses the situation at the Philosophy Faculty of Moscow State University at the turn of the nine ties, the achievements of Moscow philosophers of the generation of the nineties and a number of trends and problems in contemporary Russian philosophy. Keywords·, philosophical generation, the nineties, Philosophy Faculty of Moscow State University, Institute of Philosophy RAS. Vasily V. Vanchugov Inventing Freedom This work is a short historical-philosophical essay that allows the author to con vey some elements of the mindset that is formed in the context of the transformation of the system — the collapse of one socio-political, civilizational structure and the cre ation of a new, intellectual formation in a situation of potentially productive uncertainty. It was a young generation of idealists who had received a scientif ic basis for their confidence in the Soviet materialist philosophy of Marxism developed by the previous generation, which was alive and could be questioned and debated in the Philosophy Department of Moscow University. What and how they taught in the 1980s helped some not only to survive, but also to use management science technologically to build a business or form a monetized personal brand, while others stayed in philosophy, above all in teaching philosophy, and built new educational systems in modern Russia and formed new relations in the provision of educational services. S ummaries 1210 Yulia V. Sineokaya The Philosophical Generation of the Age of Change The author views the concept of the “philosophical generation” as a powerful intellec tual pattern with its own optics, problematics and research methods. The article recounts the formation of the first post-Soviet philosophical generation who entered the profes sion at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, analyzing the shift in scientific reference points and the restructuring of the philosophical community of the time. The paper traces the continuity between the philosophical generations of the nineties and sixties. The main lines of work of Russian philosophers at the end of the twentieth century are presented in the socio-cultural context of the Perestroika era. Keywords: philosophical generation, generation of the nineties, history of Russian philosophy, self-identification, intellectual history of the 1990s, Institute of Philosophy, Philosophy department of Moscow State University. Boris V. Mezhuev New Atlantis, Castalia, the Abbey of Telema... The text gives a brief account of the history of the generation of intellectuals com monly referred to as the generation of the nineties. The author reflects on the path of this generation, choosing to analyze the fate of a small group of fellow students, those who have now passed the fifty-year mark and have probably reached the acme of social maturity. It is emphasized that this generation has achieved great results in philosophical activity. The author notes the cause of his own alienation from the path of his generation and finds it in an
inner protest against his classmates’ characteristic desire to intellec tually remove themselves from their time in order to be placed in a different context — temporal or spatial. It is noted that this very ambition was borrowed by the generation of the nineties from the philosophical leaders of the sixties. The problem of the philo sophical generation is seen in the context of the centuries-long search by the intellectu al class for its place in society in marked conflict with existing social hierarchies in the traditional agrarian-class world. Keywords: philosophical generation, intelligent class, New Atlantis, phenomenolo gy, postmodernism, social utopia. Aleksey P. Kozyrev We are a Generation of Optimists The article is a sketch of the author’s time as a student between 1985 and 1992, a time when the Soviet system broke down and there was a dramatic change in the research and teaching paradigm in philosophy. From an ideological doctrine, philosophy is transformed into a wide range of worldviews, a “transcendental background of culture” (Yu. Μ. Lot man), the basis of humanitarian and general cultural knowledge. The article recalls, in
Valerian V. Anashvili, Igor Μ. Chubarov The Present is the Past The article analyses the professional development of a generation of philosophers who entered the Philosophy Department of Moscow State University in the closing years of the USSR, and graduated from it in the “new” Yeltsin Russia of the early 1990s. In particular, the situation of general cultural backwardness, in which several genera tions of Soviet and post-Soviet people involuntarily found themselves in the context of world culture, is thematized. A number of examples are used to substantiate the thesis that their exposure to different levels of Western cultural phenomena was asynchronous and, as a result, fell out of the general logic of their formation. The article also presents the background and development strategy of the philosophical journal “Logos” as a proj ect for overcoming the aforementioned backlog. The authors conclude with an attempt to escalate the ontological, epistemological and ethical-aesthetic foundations of their generational background. Keywords: formation of philosophers of the 1990s, cultural backlog, mass culture, phe nomenology, strategy of the journal “Logos”, philosophical basis of generational background. Oleg V. Nikiforov Che vuoi? (Choice of the philosophical (MSU) and the Logos attempt of the 1990s) The text thematizes the “subcultural-philosophical” situation of the 1990s in “postSoviet” Russia, highlighting the context of the “topicality” and “fragmentary disrup tiveness” of that period, when personal “philosophical choices” were coupled with the urgency of practical
actions to form micro-communities (one of the most lasting and visible ones was the philosophical journal “Logos” (Moscow 1991....), working through an array of both domestic and world “philosophical heritage” in terms of their discov ery for self-actualizing thought-action by the co-participants in that philosophical gen eration of the “troubled” 1990s. S ummaries 1212 Igor A. Mikhaylov Myths of our Generations The article analyses the situation of philosophy in the years following the collapse of the USSR and the expectations, mindsets and attitudes of those completing their pro fessional education in philosophy in the early 1990s. Ihe author touches upon certain features of the philosophical vogue of those years: interest in Russian religious philoso phy, phenomenology (Heidegger in particular), fascination with French philosophy and even the phenomenon of a post-ideological return to Marxism. Ihe role of new forms of publication activity, which were discovered by young philosophers during this peri od, is considered; some problems of restoring connection with the interrupted philo sophical tradition are revealed. Some of the features that distinguish the worldview of the generation of the 1990s from that of the “sixties” are shown. Zhavoronkov The Time of Search This article focuses on my experience of the transition to philosophy in the con text of the crisis of institutional philosophy in Russia and Europe in the second half of the 2000s and 2010s, which most affected the younger generations of philosophers. The first part is devoted to some events and conditions that influenced my choice of phi losophy as the main subject of my studies. In the second part, I compare the situation of the crisis of university philosophy in Germany with
that in Russia — in the perspec tive of younger generations of philosophers. The first part is a reproduction of the authors 1999 essay. It is noted that 1) in the testimonies of individual representatives of the generation, the mediation of the individual and univer sal is carried out; 2) generational identity is conceptualized through a relationship with the other; 3) the “pre-reflexive” level, which precedes the separation between the intel lectual and the sensual, is important for the recognition of the self in generation. The second part contains a description of events, meetings with people, reading experiences
Aleksander V. Pavlov Concerning the Significance of One Periodical for the History of Philosophical Generations in Russia The article is a reflection on the theme of “philosophical generations” in Russia. The author begins by saying that if it is difficult to talk about generations in general, then it is even more so to talk about “philosophical generations”. He therefore concen trates on describing his experiences of academic philosophy in Russia. The author pays particular attention to the Philosophy Faculty of Moscow State University, the Insti tute of Philosophy RAS, especially the journal “Logos”. Using the latter as an example, the author shows how in Russia over the last fifteen years humanities in general (and philosophy in particular) have been gaining ground and coming close to reaching the level of world research. Keywords: Logos, popular culture, Philosophy Faculty of Moscow State University, Institute of Philosophy RAS, generation X. Aleksander Yu. Antonovskiy I Gaze with Cynicism upon our Generation The article offers spontaneous reminiscences about the formation of the first Rus sian student generation at the Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State Uni versity (1991-1996). This philosophical generation found itself in the most difficult situ ation of the 1990s, the collapse of the USSR and the devaluation of most of the spiritual and material foundations of life. As a paradoxical result, it can be stated that the first free philosophical generation in its mass was shaped as oriented not so much on scien tific or philosophical, but on political,
economic and mass media success and made a small contribution to the generation of the current stagnant state of socio-political life in the country. Nonetheless, it has also produced a number of bright names that today define the image of contemporary Russian philosophy. Keywords: Faculty of Philosophy, 1991-1996, generation, socio-political stagnation. Artem P. Besedin The Answer to the Question: What is the Philosophical Generation? Ivanov From the Generation of Continental Philosophy to the Generation of Analytical Philosophy The article examines the evolution of philosophical generations in the Moscow aca demic community from the late 1990s to the mid-10s of this century. The paper notes that the concept of “philosophical generation” should be used to indicate the exclusivity of any cultural phenomenon associated with a certain period of time. As a general rule, at these stages of society’s development, we note in all spheres of cultural life a particu lar rise in creative activity associated with the production or appropriation of new ideas and meanings, the emergence of new trends in the discussion of familiar problems and phenomena, the formation of a particular vision, the perception of the world as a whole. It is involvement in this activity that allows for a particular generational identity, which implies a sense of belonging to a common process. Another thesis of this article is that waves of creative upswing are always followed by downturns. During these periods, we cannot discern a unified cultural trend that allows a designated identity to take shape. Accordingly, we cannot speak of a special generation. Drawing on personal experience, the author notes the changes in
the academic philosophical milieu that took place dur ing the period in question. This transformation was characterized by the transition from the generation of continental philosophy of the 90s through a period of decline to the formation of the generation of analytical philosophy in the late noughties and the ear ly 10s of this century. Keywords·, history of Russian philosophy, philosophical generation, continental phi losophy, analytical philosophy. Petr A. Kusliy About a Past Life of mine in Domestic Philosophy In the article, the author provides a description of one decade of his profession al life, from 2004 to 2013. It describes the realities and moods in which philosophy, according to the author s observations, existed in those years, both in educational and research organizations in Moscow, as well as in broader spheres of public life (journal ism, inter alia). Particular attention is paid to the teachers who had a particular influ ence on the author in those years, as well as to his friends and colleagues who, in his opinion, have left their mark on Russian philosophy and are representative of their philosophical generation.
phy RAS. Elena O. Trufanova Philosophers at the Turn of the Twenty-first Century: on the Philosophical Generation of the Noughties This article examines the transformations of philosophy and the particularities of its teaching during the transition from Soviet to post-Soviet philosophy in Russia. The article analyzes the environment of the Faculty of Philosophy of the State Academic Uni versity of Humanities and the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sci ences in the late 1990s — early 2000s. The article analyzes the academic environment of the Faculty of Philosophy of the State Academic University of Humanities and the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the late 1990s — early 2000s. It is demonstrated that during this period there was a “perestroika” of philoso phy, in the course of which the Marxist philosophy of the Soviet period was complete ly silenced. The special scientific atmosphere of the theory of cognition sector of the Institute of Philosophy of the RAS, headed by V. A. Lektorsky, is analyzed. A notion of “philosophical generations” is provided, in which the key unifying factor appears to be the presence of “significant others” — teachers who have had a considerable influence in shaping a new generation of philosophers. Keywords: philosophical generations, State Academic University of Humanities, Insti tute of Philosophy RAS, V. A. Lektorsky, epistemology, sector of the theory of knowledge. Andrey V. Prokofiev The Elusive Generations Appealing to the idea of generation is a rather effective tool for interpreting
chang es taking place in different spheres of human activity, particularly in the field of phil osophical cognition. It closes the historical overview of such changes to an important anthropological constant — human age — and makes it possible to reconstruct both the general regular dynamics of what is happening and the unique features of each stage of the dynamic process. However, the “generational” (discrete) dimension of history can, in some specific cases, lose its significance and be overshadowed by those dimensions that ensure continuity and succession. As applied to philosophical cognition, these are factors of the universal unity of the problematics and the philosophical school. The biography of the author of this essay shows that for a certain part of Russian philosophers, this is the ratio of features and driving forces of their academic career. Philosophers belonging to this group are characterized by two general characteristics: 1) coming to philosophy from other humanities disciplines; 2) coming to philosophy against the background of a more or less acute “personnel crisis” of this discipline at the turn of the 1990-2000s. They can also be called a kind of generation, at least a generation within a generation. 1215 S ummaries Keywords: philosophy, the 2000s, Moscow, memoirs, RSUH, Institute of Philoso-
S ummaries 1216 However, their “generational” unity is purely structural, and their activities are substan tively determined by their affiliation with the schools through which they were intro duced to philosophy. Thus, the author of the essay, who had originally specialised in the history of social thought, became a postgraduate student at the Department of Phi losophy and Cultural Studies of the L. N. Tolstoy Tula State University, working closely with the Ethics Department of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This set not only his long association with the Institute, but also his belong ing to the Moscow school of ethics with its methodological approaches and theoretical attitudes to the phenomenon of morality. This scenario of biography excluded priority communication with philosophical peers and promoted the perception of one’s disci pline (ethics) not as a space of generational change, with its dramatical struggle to set “a universally accepted reality” (J. Ortega y Gasset), but as a space for collective resolution of cross-cutting theoretical issues. Diana E. Gasparyan Philosophy as a Vocation and Profession: the Story of Becoming a Philosopher in Russia, Told in the First Person Ihis essay is a recollection of my years of study at Moscow State University and the beginning of my work at the Higher School of Economics, as well as a reflection on the current period and the state of philosophy in Russia as a whole. It is the aim of this essay to try to reflect on belonging to a certain generation of philosophers, to compare it with the past and future generations, and also to try to trace the continuity of genera tions. The example of my own apprenticeship as well as my teaching shows the distinc tive features of each new stage in the formation of philosophy in Russia. On the basis of personal experience, the author considers the similarities and differences between the Russian and foreign practice of teaching philosophy, as well as working at the Academy in the status of a professional philosopher. The paper traces the influence of the most significant and key studies and researchers on my philosophical perception as well as on the formation of my generation of philosophers. The names and personalities repre sent the characteristic spirit of a certain philosophical era, recall the most valuable and defining relationships for the author with colleagues and friends, the most important and promising projects and joint initiatives. 1217 S ummaries society, so rich in possibilities and risks. Working with generational themes, the author draws on the classic works in this area by K. Mannheim and H. Ortega y Gasset, domestic
sociological tradition represented by T. Shanin, Y. Levada and others, and modern stud ies of the Millennial generation, in particular the so-called self-generation (J. Twenge). In addition, the author, belonging to the appropriate age cohort, analyses personal expe rience, acting as a representative of the Millennial generation in general and the Mil lennial generation of philosophers in particular. The main emphasis is on examining how the choice of profession took place, what events determined it, what was the moti vation in the zero years first to study at the Faculty of Philosophy, then to write a PhD thesis, and finally, to pursue a career of a professional philosopher. At the same time, the author is critical of the fact that he belongs to the Millennial generation, honestly iden tifying and explaining some distance from his peers and some emotional embedded ness in the experiences of previous generations, above all those of the sixties and sev enties. By stipulating the facts of her own biography that can influence the assessment of the socio-cultural and professional significance of the Millennial generation of phi losophers, the author offers her vision of the main features that distinguish millenni als as a philosophical generation. One of the main theses substantiated in the article is the assertion of a fundamentally open fate of the Millennial generation in philosophy, whose history is not yet written, but is strictly not predetermined by the past and pres ent, being dependent on fast-changing images of the immediate and more distant future.

The product of this philosophical circle that would be the most familiar to a wider Rus sian audience is a journal called Date-Palm Compote (Finikovyj Kompot). Afanasov Fragmentation as a Generational Strategy The article presents the authors reflection on the key features of the philosophical generation that emerged in the Russian-speaking space in the 10s of the twentieth cen tury. The author suggests that a relevant theoretical lens for examining the specificities that distinguish young people who began their journey in philosophy during these years could be an appeal to a sociological typology of the generations. According to the opin ion of Vadim Radaev, the authoritative sociologist, the designated philosophical gener ation belongs to the “millennials”. Among the key characteristics that
distinguish these young people are isolation, enthusiasm for gadgets and household digitalization, lack of desire to build a career, and inability to integrate into large hierarchical structures. Drawing on his personal experience, framed as brief notes on the key themes that shape the intellectual generation — journals, people, books, locations — the author invites the reader to consider some circumstances of his personal intellectual biography that might serve as evidence to support the hypothesis put forward. Without hoping to be able to “grasp” the essence of his generation, the author hopes that his memories may prove use ful for later comparative analysis. Natalia D. Safronova The Millennial s Face This essay attempts to trace some characteristic features of the philosophical gener ation of millennials born between the end of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s in Rus sia. Taking into account the historical and cultural context of the time when they were born and raised, the author comes to the conclusion that the philosophical generation Y in Russia might be characterized by pragmatism, playful attitude to the tradition, irony, cosmopolitism, multilingualism, and virtualization of reality. All these features reflect a special “omnivorous” and nomadic mindset of those who grew up and began their career on the border between the 20th and 21st centuries. I made a list of seven questions and sent them out to the interviewees, slightly adjust ing them to reflect what I perceived as personal peculiarities of each. In certain cases, after receiving the written answers, I readjusted the questions so that they fit better the answers, and agreed with the interviewees on the final result. S ummaries 1220 the authors identify themselves. This philosophical generation is not uniform: its mem bers have come across with philosophy and oriental studies at different ages, under dif ferent circumstances and with different responses; they have different understandings of what philosophy deals with and why it is needed; they have different specialization and pursue different scientific goals. At the same time, it has the following important common traits that allow for conceptualizing it as a single philosophical generation: its members have entered the history of philosophy out of love for philosophy and not because of some external reasons; they do not hold any articulated original philosophi cal views; they became interested in studying the history of Eastern traditions because of their “otherness”; they recognize the necessity to use accessible digital technologies in the work of a modern historian of philosophy; they want to rebuff the misrepresenta tions and prejudices on these traditions — that is, they oppose irrationalism, postmod ernism, Marxism, Orientalism (understood as the exaltation of the East and its wisdom in the style of “secrets of spirituality”), propaganda of an extraordinary uniqueness of Eastern thought, modernization, generalization, scholasticism, interpretive (and similar) translations, methodological anarchism, etc. in oriental studies, — in other words, they attempt neither to complicate nor to simplify Eastern thought, as well as to convey it in a neutral and critical scientific language; they wish for a higher quality scientific

The author’s point of view is objectified by describing the basic principles, predi lections and environmental factors that were decisive in shaping his subjectivity. Anna Μ. Winkelman Generation is a Verb It seems to be common to talk about the generational divide from an extreme point of view — the older say they do not understand the younger, and the younger say they do not understand the older. Now I am somewhere in the midst of it, so I would like to talk about my experience of intergenerational reflection. On the one hand, this text is almost philosophical, because generation is a key historical category. On the other hand, I tried to show the fundamental nature of this category through a personal history in which all generations — from Thales to my first students — are inextricably linked. Genera tion is not a frozen concept, not a given, but an action and an effort; generation is a verb.
This book is a special document in the history of philosophy in
Russia, a group self-portrait of Russian philosophers of the mid-twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, a
first-person chronicle of the Moscow philosophical community, narrated by the participants of the events described. The study of philosophical generations is important for the restoration of the human context of the development of philosophy, outside of which much will remain incomprehensible. The path from generational type to texts is no less important than the familiar path from texts. The notion of the “philosophical generation” is used as a key to interpreting the history of philosophy. The generational approach allows us to change the usual optics, to focus the attention of researchers on existential, personal ties within the professional community, which clarifies the mutual influences of scholars that determine the birth and development of philosophical ideas. The publication is timed to the centenary of the Institute of Philosophy, RAS, whose creation marked the beginning of the institutionalization of philosophical research in Russia, and illustrated with photographic portraits of the authors from the time of their entering the profession. SUMMARIES Yulia V. Sineokaya Voices of Philosophers. Editor's Preface The article analyses the generational approach to the study of the formation of the philosophical tradition.

Galina L Belkina So Far Back in 1948.
Erikh Yu. Solov'ev "Philosophers of the Sixties": the Post-War Brotherhood of Fathers and Children The article analyzes two “sub-generations” that became part of the Soviet “philoso phers of the sixties”.

T. Frolov. Nelly V. Motroschilova Of my Generation The article is devoted to the generation of
the sixties. On the basis of personal rec ollections and the testimony of contemporaries, the author presents a generalized por trait of the intellectuals of that period and reflects on how they proved themselves in their philosophical life and philosophical creativity. Ihe philosophers of the sixties are presented as a philosophically unified generation, defined by the similarity of orienta tions, values, and attitudes that are clearly visible in everything they did in their profes sion. Along with an analysis of the intellectual life of the Faculty of Philosophy at Mos cow State University and the central themes developed by colleagues at the Institute of Philosophy, the author describes the functioning of the unorthodox philosophical com munities of the 1960s. Special attention is paid to the interaction of philosophers of the sixties and cultural figures of that era.
Keywords: philosophical education gnoseology epistemology philosophy of sci ence reflection science of science historical reconstruction historical process Moscow methodological circle. Boris I.
Keywords: generational dynamics, intergenerational dialogue, the late Soviet era, birth of cultural studies, books and people of the 1970s and 1990s.
Lysenko "No One Can Set a Person Free" The author reflects on the fate of his generation — a generation of Philosophy Department graduates in 1976 — against the background of his own personal histo ry, trying to understand and explain why, almost 30 years after the collapse of Soviet power, after the discovery of the
monstrous truth about its crimes, after the fall of the Iron Curtain and liberation from the dictates of “the only right” ideology, people of different generations who lived under the “Soviet Union” and even very young peo ple born after the collapse of the USSR, are nostalgic for the Soviet regime? How is it possible to know about the Gulag and still erect monuments to Stalin? Why, after an experience of freedom and a brief but still normal human life, do we have to defend our freedom and human dignity again? And how come the country failed to seize the unique chance to transform itself and become part of the world, and instead fell back on the rails of isolation and xenophobia? One of the important reasons for this is the prevalence of social infantilism in contemporary Russia, a consequence of the genetic legacy of serfdom and “wild” individualism, with no sense of responsibility towards “others”. Keywords: philosophical generation, philosophy of the Soviet period, Indian phi losophy, Philosophy Department of Moscow State University, Institute of Philosophy.
Keywords: logic, logicians, fate, the sixties, the seventies, alienation, critical think ing, informal logic, argumentation. Sergey A. Nikolsky An Opportunity Offered Itself to Find out how Life Really Works.
Fortunately, the sub ject of teaching in this generation was not affected. Keywords՛, philosophical generation, Moscow University, philosophical community.
Boris V. Mezhuev New Atlantis, Castalia, the Abbey of Telema.
(Choice of the philosophical (MSU) and the "Logos" attempt of the 1990s) The text thematizes the “subcultural-philosophical” situation of the 1990s in “postSoviet” Russia, highlighting the context of the “topicality” and “fragmentary disrup tiveness” of that period, when personal “philosophical choices” were coupled with the urgency of practical
actions to form micro-communities (one of the most lasting and visible ones was the philosophical journal “Logos” (Moscow 1991.), working through an array of both domestic and world “philosophical heritage” in terms of their discov ery for self-actualizing thought-action by the co-participants in that philosophical gen eration of the “troubled” 1990s. Keywords: philosophical generation, generational myth, generation of the nineties, Russian philosophy, phenomenology, post-ideological Marxism, philosophical journals. Aleksey G.
In the concluding part, I write about my experience at the Institute of Philosophy of RAS and offer some thoughts on possible and potentially interesting prospects for the development of philosophy in Russia for younger generations of philosophers. Mikhaylovsky My Philosophical Generation The article explores the phenomenon of generation and self-understanding/ recog nition oneself in a generation from the perspective of hermeneutic philosophy.
The author goes on to offer some reflections on his own generation. Keywords·, philosophical generation, change of generations, philosophical commu nity, philosophical education. Dmitry V.
Particular attention is paid to the teachers who had a particular influ ence on the author in those years, as well as to his friends and colleagues who, in his opinion, have left their mark on Russian philosophy and are representative of their philosophical generation.
phy RAS. Elena O. Trufanova Philosophers at the Turn of the Twenty-first Century: on the "Philosophical Generation" of the Noughties This article examines the transformations of philosophy and the particularities of its teaching during the transition from Soviet to post-Soviet philosophy in Russia.

Evgeny V. Loginov, Andrew V. Mertsalov, Artem T. lunusov Philosophical Café We offer to our reader a short essay on history and theoretical views of Moscow Philosophical Café — a community formed by students of Faculty of Philosophy at Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2009 and ever since aspiring to combine in its proceedings a rigor of a research seminar with a friendly atmosphere of a coffee break. The product of this philosophical circle that would be the most familiar to a wider Rus sian audience is a journal called Date-Palm Compote (Finikovyj Kompot). Keywords: Moscow Philosophical Café; Date-Palm Compote (Finikovyj Kompot); philosophical communities; modern Russian philosophy. Nikolai B.
Natalia D. Safronova The Millennial's Face This essay attempts to trace some characteristic features of the philosophical gener ation of millennials born between the end of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s in Rus sia. Keywords: history of philosophy — Moscow State University — millennials — gen eration Y — virtual reality — pragmatism. Daniil O. Aronson Three Interviews with my Generation (Ekaterina I. Khan, Igor A. Vorontsov, Mikhail Yu. Frunkin) Having received an offer to write about philosophers of my generation, I found nothing better than to interview three friends of mine, whom I perceive as philosophers. I made a list of seven questions and sent them out to the interviewees, slightly adjust ing them to reflect what I perceived as personal peculiarities of each. In certain cases, after receiving the written answers, I readjusted the questions so that they fit better the answers, and agreed with the interviewees on the final result. After that, an introduc tory essay was written, which, therefore, should be regarded as a post factum reflection. Keywords: philosophy, generation Y,

Rykov Young Orientalists in the Early Twenty-first Century The article is a philosophical essay attempting to outline the essential features that characterize the philosophical generation of “young Moscow orientalists” with whom 1219 S ummaries realism”. Ihe main thesis of this article is that this generation of philosophers, using the anti-relationist thesis of speculative realism, tries to update the ontology of difference associated with French theory and neo-Marxism. I also compare the sociological con cept of the millennial generation with the specified generation of philosophers who popularize speculative realism. Keywords: generations, speculative realism, millennials, correlationism, ontology of difference.
At the same time, it has the following important common traits that allow for conceptualizing it as a single philosophical generation: its members have entered the history of philosophy out of love for philosophy and not because of some external reasons; they do not hold any articulated original philosophi cal views; they became interested in studying the history of Eastern traditions because of their “otherness”; they recognize the necessity to use accessible digital technologies in the work of a modern historian of philosophy; they want to rebuff the misrepresenta tions and prejudices on these traditions — that is, they oppose irrationalism, postmod ernism, Marxism, Orientalism (understood as the exaltation of the East and its wisdom in the style of “secrets of spirituality”), propaganda of an extraordinary uniqueness of Eastern thought, modernization, generalization, scholasticism, interpretive (and similar) translations, methodological anarchism, etc. in oriental studies, — in other words, they attempt neither to complicate nor to simplify Eastern thought, as well as to convey it in a neutral and critical scientific language; they wish for a higher quality scientific
com munication (both formal and informal) — not only with their Russian colleagues, but also with the international academic community. The article can be useful for the soci ology of science — as a piece of self-reflection produced by young humanity scholars of the first quarter of the XXI century. Keywords: philosophical generation, history of philosophy, oriental studies, Mos cow, the Far East, China, India. Ivan N. Belonogov Screaming Machines. Desert Chronicles This text is an experimental attempt to make an “objective” generational statement. For this purpose, the locality and non-reference character of the subject-author used as an example is postulated and the requirement of explication of his point of view for its objectification is introduced. The idea of generations and their specifications is brought in. The author’s point of view is objectified by describing the basic principles, predi lections and environmental factors that were decisive in shaping his subjectivity. After that, a statement is made about the generation, in the broad sense of the word. Next, the main teacher-attractors who influenced the formation of the philosophical aspects of the authors subjectivity are listed, followed by a statement on the philosophical genera tion Finally, a prediction is made about the future. Keywords: philosophical generation, generation Y, 2007, RPG, Gilles Deleuze, Fried rich Nietzsche, Freackazoid, Ivan Belonogov, “le Shizo”.
Keywords: generations, NRU Higher School of Economics, German philosophy, 21st century. 1221 S ummaries Ekaterina S. Marchukova Reflections on Philosophical Generation as a Type of Spiritual Practice The article provides a reflection on the notion of the “philosophical generation”. The importance of raising the question of the definition, boundaries and characteristics of a particular philosophical generation is associated with the opportunity to rethink per sonal academic and life experience. The author analyses the key events of her profes sional development and work at the Institute of Philosophy, the communication within the philosophical environment, the specifics of a number of research projects, the gen eral atmosphere and the most significant moments in the life of the Institute of Philos ophy in the second decade of the 21st
century. Keywords: philosophical generation, Institute of Philosophy, philosophical commu nity, “Philosophical workshop”.
