520 | 3 | |a In 'Allegories of the Anthropocene' Elizabeth M. DeLoughrey traces how indigenous and postcolonial peoples in the Caribbean and Pacific Islands grapple with the enormity of colonialism and anthropogenic climate change through art, poetry, and literature. In these works, authors and artists use allegory as a means to understand the multiscalar complexities of the Anthropocene and to critique the violence of capitalism, militarism, and the postcolonial state. DeLoughrey examines the work of a wide range of artists and writers-including poets Kamau Brathwaite and Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner, Dominican installation artist Tony Capellan, and authors Keri Hulme and Erna Brodber-whose work addresses Caribbean plantations, irradiated Pacific atolls, global flows of waste, and allegorical representations of the ocean and the island. In examining how island writers and artists address the experience of finding themselves at the forefront of the existential threat posed by climate change, DeLoughrey demonstrates how the Anthropocene and empire are mutually constitutive and establishes the vital importance of allegorical art and literature in understanding our global environmental crisis | |

In examining how island writers and artists address the experience of finding themselves at the forefront of the existential threat posed by climate change, DeLoughrey demonstrates how the Anthropocene and empire are mutually constitutive and establishes the vital importance of allegorical art and literature in understanding our global environmental crisis Art antillais Thèmes, motifs Art océanien Thèmes, motifs Climat Changements, dans la littérature Climat Changements Écologie humaine dans l'art Littérature antillaise Thèmes, motifs Littérature océanienne Thèmes, motifs Postcolonialisme dans la littérature Postcolonialisme et arts BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY Literary Climatic changes in literature Climatic changes Effect of human beings on Climatic changes Social aspects Human ecology in art LITERARY CRITICISM Semiotics & Theory Literary studies: post-colonial literature Pacific Island literature Themes, motives Postcolonialism and the arts Postcolonialism in literature Art, Caribbean 21st century Themes, motives Art, Pacific Island 21st century Themes, motives Caribbean literature 21st century Themes, motives Climatic changes Social aspects Caribbean Area Climatic changes Social aspects Islands of the Pacific Pacific Island literature 21st century Themes, motives Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Anthropozän Motiv (DE-588)1188908340 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Postkolonialismus (DE-588)4566658-1 gnd rswk-swf Karibik (DE-588)4073241-1 gnd rswk-swf Ozeanien (DE-588)4044257-3 gnd rswk-swf 2000-2099 Caribbean Area Pacific Ocean / Islands of the Pacific Electronic books Karibik (DE-588)4073241-1 g Ozeanien (DE-588)4044257-3 g Anthropozän Motiv (DE-588)1188908340 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Postkolonialismus (DE-588)4566658-1 s DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe DeLoughrey, Elizabeth M., 1967- Allegories of the Anthropocene Durham : Duke University Press, 2019 9781478004103 https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=3118876 Verlag kostenfrei Volltext |
