| adam_text | The Atlas of Retinal Diseases in Nigerians is an attempt to document common etinal diseases seen by the author over the past 20 years. The book is intended to bel la quick reference guide for ophthalmologist-in-training and to offer brief Į anagement modalities based on evidence in the literature. Some major landmarl etinal studies are summarized to help in decision-making based on scientific [evidence. A section on the use of mobile phones for taking retinal pictures is included to aid patient education and telemedicine. Finally, retinal studies by thel author carried out on Nigerians is summarized at the end of the book. The author, who hails from Obbo-Aiyegunle, Kwara State, Nigeria, was bom to the family of Chief Samuel Oluleye and Madam Dorcas Oluleye on 2 October 1966. He bagged his First School Leaving Certificate from the Seventh Day Adventist School, Osi-Opin, Kwara State, Nigeria in 1978. He attended the Government High School, llorín and Osi Central Secondary School, where he obtained his West African School Certificate with 5 distinctions and was admitted to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of llorín, Nigeria. He graduated in 1991 and after the mandatory Housemanship, he proceeded for the National Youth Service at the Outpatient Department of the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He started as a Family Physician, but in 1995, through encouragements from Dr Kalejaiye and Prof Osuntokun, he was admitted into the Ophthalmology Residency Programme at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He completed his residency fellowship in 2001 for both the
National and West African Colleges. With encouragement from Prof Baiyeroju, he proceeded to the Eye Foundation Hospital in Lagos for his first exposure in the retina subspecialty. He was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in 2004. In 2006, he secured a Training Grant from the McArthur Foundation and the International Council of Ophthalmology for a Medical Retina Fellowship at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, India, following which he bagged his Surgical Retina Fellowship at the Aravind Eye Hospital and the Institute of Community Ophthalmology, courtesy of the Carl-Zeiss Project and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness in 2007. He came back to set up the Retina Unit of the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Ibadan and the University· College Hospital, and has since trained many residents and fellows. He hasl numerous publications on the diseases of the retina in local and international peer-i review journals. He is married to his lovely wife, Kehinde and blessed with three· children, Temiloluwa, Olaoluwa and Modupeoreoluwa.
