520 | 3 | |a In his conclusion, Isaria Kimambo reflects on the efforts of successive historians to strike a balance between external causes of change and local initiative in their interpretations of Tanzanian history. He argues that nationalist and Marxist historians of Tanzanian history, understandably preoccupied through the first quarter-century of the country's post-colonial history with the impact of imperialism and capitalism on East Africa, tended to overlook the initiatives taken by rural societies to transform themselves. Yet, he suggests, there is good reason for historians to think about the causes of change and innovation in the rural communities of Tanzania, because farming and pastoral people have constantly changed as they adjusted to shifting environmental conditions.

North America: Ohio U Press; Tanzania: Mkuki na Nyota | |

Struggles for the land : the political & moral economies of land on Mount Meru Thomas Spear ; Conclusion Isaria N. Kimambo In his conclusion, Isaria Kimambo reflects on the efforts of successive historians to strike a balance between external causes of change and local initiative in their interpretations of Tanzanian history.

North America: Ohio U Press; Tanzania: Mkuki na Nyota Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Umweltschutz (DE-588)4061644-7 gnd rswk-swf Umweltpolitik (DE-588)4078523-3 gnd rswk-swf Humanökologie (DE-588)4026152-9 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf Umweltveränderung (DE-588)4304982-5 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 gnd rswk-swf Tansania (DE-588)4078149-5 gnd rswk-swf Environmental protection / Tanzania Human ecology / Tanzania / History Environmental policy / Tanzania Human ecology ; Tanzania ; History Environmental policy ; Tanzania Environmental protection ; Tanzania Tanzania ; Social conditions Tanzania ; Economic conditions Tanzania ; Politics and government Tanzania / Politics and government Tanzania / Social conditions Tanzania / Economic conditions 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Tansania (DE-588)4078149-5 g Umweltveränderung (DE-588)4304982-5 s Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 s Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 2\p DE-604 Humanökologie (DE-588)4026152-9 s Umweltschutz (DE-588)4061644-7 s 3\p DE-604 Geschichte z 4\p DE-604 5\p DE-604 Umweltpolitik (DE-588)4078523-3 s 6\p DE-604 7\p DE-604 Maddox, Gregory 1959- (DE-588)143865560 edt Kimambo, Isaria N. 1931- (DE-588)1184445796 edt Giblin, James L.
