Résumé
Le volume suit l’éclaircissement et le support argu-
mentatif de la distinction théorie idéale-théorie non idéale, telle
qu’elle est invoquée et utilisée surtout dans (quelques-uns) des
ouvrages de philosophie politique centrés sur le thème la
justice. Tout au long de cette démarche consacrée à l’accom-
plissement de cet objectif, le volume propose aussi quelques
analyses concernant l’autre question majeure issue de la
distinction idéal-non idéal dans la théorie politique: la question
de la fondation de la théorie idéale en tant que méthode de
spécification du concept de justice ou/et en tant qu’instrument
d’orientation de l’action, des institutions et des politiques
publiques.
En dehors d’un avant-propos (qui prépare le terrain et le
cadre exploratif du volume) et des conclusions (qui synthétisent
son parcours argumentatif et rappellent quelques explications et
observations fondamentales), le volume est structuré en trois
chapitres. Le premier chapitre met en discussion la distinction
théorie idéale-théorie non idéale selon la vision de John Rawls.
Son intention fondamentale est celle de clarifier, d’évaluer et de
synthétiser les principales affirmations et les thèses spécifiques
de la conception rawlsienne. Le deuxième chapitre fait l’objet
d’une investigation des principales contributions post-rawl-
siennes visant la démarche d’éclaircissement de la distinction
idéale- non idéale dans la théorisation de la justice. Le troisième
chapitre rejette la thèse selon laquelle la distinction théorie

idéale-théorie non idéale sera fausse, non justifiée ou, en tout
cas, dépourvue des traits catégoriques.
Conformément à sa démarche argumentative et expli-
cative, l’ouvrage propose la définition suivante de la distinction
idéale- non idéale dans la théorisation de la justice : la théorie
idéale est la théorie dont le but est d’offrir une réponse la plus
adéquate possible à la question « qu’est-ce que la justice
sociale? » Autrement dit, la théorie idéale est la théorie qui
définit ou spécifie le concept de la justice sociale. En échange,
la théorie non-idéale est le domaine de recherche académique
intéressé et obligé à répondre à toutes les autres questions
cardinales liées à la justice et à l’injustice: « la justice sociale
est-elle un idéal faisable ici et à présent? » « quels sont les
meilleurs politiques afin de corriger ou d’atténuer les injustices
sociales quotidiennes? », « quel stratagème est-il le plus adéquat
afin d’accomplir le design institutionnel qui puisse satisfaire le
meilleur les principes de la justice? », « de quelle manière sont
affectés les devoirs de la justice lorsque les autres échouent à
s’y conformer? », « quelles sont les exigences de la justice
rétributive? » ou « quels sont les principes de la justice
rectificative? ».
