adam_text | Sport and Exercise Psychology Research: From Theory to Practice encompasses interdisciplinary
research from psychology, neuroscience, physical education and sport science, human
kinetics, biomechanics, and health science. Intended to appeal both to academic researchers
as well as practitioners such as athletes, coaches, and sport psychologists, the research covered
includes both basic processes and applied practice.
The book begins with a discussion of the basic antecedents to performance including brain
behavior connections, the relationship of perception to action, mental representations of
movement, learning, and team dynamics. Section II focuses on individual and contextual
factors affecting performance. Section III discusses different perspectives on sport psychology
from scientists to practitioner specialists. Section IV explores research and practice in exercise
psychology including how best to promote an active lifestyle and its hedonic experience.
The book includes a mix of award winning researchers from the European Sport Psychology
Association along with top researchers from the United States and elsewhere to bring an
international overview to sport psychology.
Key features:
• Encompasses theory, research, and applications in sport psychology
• Includes interdisciplinary research from multiple departments and perspectives
• Explores basic processes to individual and contextual influences on performance
• Provides content for academic researchers and applied practitioners
• Contains international perspectives from 12 countries
