500 | |a Taking the Hard Road is an engaging history of growing up in working-class families in France and Germany during the Industrial Revolution. Based on a reading of ninety autobiographical accounts of childhood and adolescence, the book explores the far-reaching historical transformations associated with the emergence of modern industrial capitalism. According to Mary Jo Maynes, the aspects of private life revealed in these accounts played an important role in historical development by actively shaping the authors' social, political, and class identities. The stories told in these memoirs revolve around details of everyday life: schooling, parent-child relations, adolescent sexuality, early experiences in the workforce, and religious observances. Maynes uses demographics, family history, and literary analysis to place these details within the context of historical change. She also draws comparisons between French and German texts, men's and women's accounts, and narratives of social mobility and political militancy | ||

Digital master created according to Benchmark for Faithful Digital Reproductions of Monographs and Serials, Version 1. Digital Library Federation, December 2002 Includes bibliographical references (p. 227-260) and index Taking the Hard Road is an engaging history of growing up in working-class families in France and Germany during the Industrial Revolution. She also draws comparisons between French and German texts, men's and women's accounts, and narratives of social mobility and political militancy 1800 - 1899 fast Geschichte 1800-1900 swd Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1800-1900 gnd rswk-swf Travailleurs / France / Histoire / 19e siècle Travailleurs / Allemagne / Histoire / 19e siècle RELIGION / Christianity / General bisacsh RELIGION / Ethics bisacsh SOCIAL SCIENCE / Minority Studies bisacsh Working class fast Autobiografieën gtt Arbeiders gtt Arbeiter swd Selbstdarstellung swd Autobiographie swd Christentum Geschichte Working class France History 19th century Working class Germany History 19th century Arbeiter (DE-588)4112560-5 gnd rswk-swf Deutsch (DE-588)4113292-0 gnd rswk-swf Selbstdarstellung (DE-588)4122349-4 gnd rswk-swf Französisch (DE-588)4113615-9 gnd rswk-swf Autobiografie (DE-588)4003939-0 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland Frankreich Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Deutsch (DE-588)4113292-0 s Arbeiter (DE-588)4112560-5 s Autobiografie (DE-588)4003939-0 s Französisch (DE-588)4113615-9 s Geschichte 1800-1900 z 1\p DE-604 Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Selbstdarstellung (DE-588)4122349-4 s Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g 2\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 0-8078-2187-X Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 0-8078-4497-7 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-0-8078-2187-9 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-0-8078-4497-7 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=1551 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
