EUROMAIDAN IN UKRAINE: REVIEW OF INFORMATIVE POTENTIAL
OF FACEBOOK NETWORK (NOVEMBER 2013 — FEBRUARY 2014)
This article attempts to analyze Facebook social network namely as an
informative source with regard to Euromaidan events; it emphasizes its importance
and specific kind of usage. This article offers classification of resources namely
of pro-Maidan orientation and raises a problem of collection, recording, visual
representation, storage and implementation of prospective methods of investigation
and «devirtualization» of information from this new source.

and description of this electronic source.

SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF WEB SOURCES:
EUROMAIDAN FACEBOOK PAGE FROM NOVEMBER 2013 TO MAY 2014
Online social networks have witnessed considerable attention from many
scholars. Historians recognize that web sources, and Facebook particularly, may
serve as a historical source. Facebook profiles, pages, and groups have a variety of
options to save and spread information including videos, photos, events, and
written messages. Fjirthermore, communication and spread of information can be
detected through comments, shares, and likes. Facebook presents a challenge to
historians in terms of data collection, storage, conceptualization and analysis. This
paper presents an example of how Facebook data can be collected and analyzed
quantitatively by means of simple statistical procedures and Social Network
Analysis. A unique data set of 27,458 posts and 946,776 comments from the
Facebook page of EuroMaidan was collected covering the period of November
2013 — May 2014. The present study suggests that intensive communication
between EuroMaidan online activists appeared on Facebook after the end of the

revolution when the overall magnitude of posts decreased dramatically. More
studies have to be conducted to investigate whether stable social ties between
online activists were produced in the course of their communication.

THE POSSIBILITIES OF USING OF THE SOCIAL NETWORKS
IN UKRAINIAN MUSEUM S ACTIVITY
In the article we aim at the issue of the usage of the most popular social
networks in museum activity. We state the advantages of the usage of social
networking opportunities for museums in their research and educational work and
analyze their shortcomings. The degree of integration of Ukrainian museums into
popular social networks such as «VK», «Classmates», «Facebook» and micro blog
«Twitter».

THE EXPERIENCE OF ELECTRONIC PUBLICATION OF HISTORICAL
SOURCES IN THE US AND WESTERN EUROPE: OVERVIEW [1971-2010}
Nearly 40-years’ experience in the implementation of the electronic publica-
tions of historical sources in the western world were analyzed, the basic scientific
presentation projects of electronic forms of publication records are named —
Oxford Text Archive , Project Gutenberg of the early 1970s, ARTFL (1980s),
Historical Text Archive of the 1990s, Academy for Ancient Texts of the 2000s,
and so on. The basic difference between the concepts of such resources, the techni-
cal parameters of the reproduction of texts of the sources and the opportunities of
managing the search work are shown. The main conclusion made is that stated
electronic resources mainly used the concept of open library access , resulting in a
small number of published historical sources, the lack of special electronic archeo-
graphic projects that meet the needs of scientific research in various fields of
knowledge.

The author of the article analyzes content and genre peculiarities of the electro-
nic bibliographic resources at V. Sukhomlynskii State Scientific and Pedagogical
Library of Ukraine, the access to which is provided for remote users through the web
portal of the above mentioned library, and their integration capabilities.

AS A SOURCE BASE FOR SOCIAL AND HUMANITARIAN STUDIES
Tne publication deals with the problems of problem-oriented knowledge
databases formed by libraries. The range of problems related to the creation of
sophisticated social and humanitarian intelligent information products are outlined.
The main task of building a electronic library «Digital Ucrainica» and its structural
elements are considered. The ways of creating a distributed registry books and
digital resources of Ucrainica are proposed.

ON THE QUESTION OF DESCRIPTION SPECIFICS
OF THE UKRAINIAN CYRILLIC HANDWRITTEN BOOKS
OF THE XVII CENTURY IN THE DATABASE «CODEX»:
FIELDS «PROTOGRAPH» AND «OLD PRINTED BOOK»
The article reviews the problem of creation of electronic resource of the
Ukrainian Cyrillic handwritten books of the XVII century based on the «Codex»
database of the Institute of Manuscript of V.I. Vemadskii National Library of
Ukraine, within the «IRBIS64» system of libraries automation. It is noted that
while describing manuscripts and including them into the database it is necessary
to take into account the specifics of the handwritten books of the XVII century,
related to the old printed book. We suggest to expand the database structure with
new fields: «Protograph» and «Old Printed Book», - these terms are an innovation
for databases of such level.

DATABASE ON HISTORICAL BOOKBINDINGS IN THE WEBSITE:
ANALYSIS OF THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION, CLASSIFICATION
The article contains a brief analysis of online resources of bookbindings,
which have been online since the Internet had become generally available for users.
We review the causes for these databases introduction, peculiar properties and main
characteristics, which differentiate them from other kinds of databases available for
researchers. We have paid particular attention to the issues that the internet users face
while searching for information on historical and contemporary art bookbindings. The
author attempts to systematize the revealed databases by the specificity of information
they provide. We have distinguished four most typical groups and given their brief
characteristics. This article is the first attempt in Ukraine of content-analysis of
databases devoted to various aspects of bookbindings research.

In this article the overall criteria, based on common principles of quality, of
cultural and scientific sites’ analysis are given; the websites of Sofiya Kiyvska and
Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral are compared and analyzed according to quality
principles and the ways to improve those websites are considered.

INFORMATION RESOURCES ON HISTORY
OF THE COUNTRIES OF EASTERN EUROPE
OF THE INTERNET GERMAN-SPEAKING SEGMENT
The article characterizes German-speaking electronic resources located on
the Internet where various materials on history of Eastern Europe are presented.
They are: historic sources, monographs, articles, serial and periodical editions,
reviews, bibliography etc. The article analyzes structure of the German-speaking
segment of Internet of electronic resources of historical specialization. It illustrates
content of electronic collection of sources connected with history of Eastern
Europe, as part of digitized resources of the biggest state and university libraries.
The publication stresses role of complex German-speaking network resources of
humanitarian profile for the researchers of modem history of Ukraine.
