Zusammenfassung: | A.F.C. Kollmann (1756-1829) and J.B. Logier (1777-1846) were two theorists of German birth in early nineteenth-century England. During their lifetime they were both highly prolific and wrote a number of treatises that reflected original conceptions about musical structure. Kollmann, a native of Hanover, became the organist and schoolmaster in 1782 of the Royal German Chapel in St James's Palace, London, where he remained for the rest of his life. In his work in England, he sought to bring clarity to music theory, striving to explain concepts in as simple terms as possible, all guided by the fundamental bass, the "true root" of chords. In his first treatise, the Essay on harmony, Kollmann explained that his theories were based on the fundamental-bass model of Rameau as well as Johann Philipp Kirnberger. |
