Dragotina
Cvetka, utemeljite¬
lja slovenske muzikologije,
in
malo nad pol stoletja, odkar je izšel še zadnji, tretji zve-
zek njegovega temeljnega
dela
in
prvega znanstvenega vseobsegajočega pregleda zgodo-
vine glasbene umetnosti na
Slovenskem.
S
tem
so
bili postavljeni temelji nacionalnega
glasbenega zgodovinopisja, ki se je
nato
postopno razvilo
v
sodobno
in
evropsko pri-
merljivo slovensko muzikologijo ,
kot jo
poznamo
danes.
Akademik
in
profesor,
dr.
Dragotin Cvetko je
v stroko
uvedel vrsto pozneje vodilnih slovenskih
muzikológov
in
tuđi njihovih
kolegov
po
vsej
bivši Jugoslaviji. Pečat njegovega neutrudnega
dela
in
pri-
zadevanj je
ostal
neizbrisen,
о
čemur priča tuđi ta spominski zbornik, katerega osrednji
avtorji
so
njegovi doktorandi. Medtem
ко
se starejša generacija klanja spominu
in delu
svojega voditelja
in
vzornika, pa mlajša generacija razmišlja tako
o preteklih
dosežkih
kot
tuđi izzivih za naprej. Vse skupaj pa nas

je seveda tuđi edino prav

naprej
v příhodnost.

Srečanje je zaokrožila diskusijska okrogla

v prostorih
Slovenske matice
z
naslovom Kaj nam je
zapustil Dragotin Cvetko? Sosledje príspev¬
kov v
pričujoči publikaciji
v
največji
meri
sledi zasnovi srečanja, dodana pa
so nekatera
besedila, ki
so bila prebraná
na otvoritvenih slavjih ali pa se obračajo neposredno na
slavljenca
in so
bila posredovana uredništvu naknadno. Tako se namesto
z vsebinskim
uvodom knjiga
začne z tehtnimi
in
prisrčnimi besedami akademika
prof. dr.
Kajetana
Gantarja, Cvetkovega prijatelja
in univerzitetnega
kolega,
ki
so
pospremile prvo prire-
ditev lanskega septembra, odkritje doprsnega kipa
Dragotina
Cvetka pred njegovo roj-
stno hišo
v
Vučji
vasi.
Druga besedila častnih govornikov, osebnih prijateljev
in tesnih
sodelavcev
so
združena na koncu razprav pod skupnim podnaslovom
In memoriam.
Cvetkovo širino
in obseg
njegovega mednarodnega delovanja dokazuje tuđi nacionalna
raznolikost avtorjev, poleg slovenskih še hrvaški, srbski, bosanski, italijanski, avstrijski,
češki
in angleški. Naj
na tem
mestu
omenim,
da se
je kljub težki bolezni Cvetku z bese-
dilom poklonil italijanski kolega
prof. dr.
Pierluigi Petrobelli, ki
paje
še pred končano
redakcijo
umri in žal
ni dočakal izida te knjige.
Ker je
knjiga namenjena
tudi spominu na vse prireditve, sta
prav na
koncu
dodana

mogoče izvesti znanstveno srečanje

In September

a hundred years have elapsed since the birth of the founder of mod¬
ern Slovenian musicology, Dragotin Cvetko, Professor of musicology and member of the
Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. His anniversary nearly coincided with another
important date for Slovenian musicology, fifty years since the publication of the third and
last volume of Cvetko s fundamental study, the first comprehensive scientific overview of
the history of music on the territory of today s Slovenia. With this book Dragotin Cvetko
paved the way for further research into national music historiography that in the follow¬
ing decades evolved into modern and internationally recognised Slovenian musicology .
Dr
Dragotin Cvetko was the tutor of a number of leading Slovenian musicologists as
well as their colleagues throughout former Yugoslavia. The imprint of his devoted work
and endeavours in Slovenian musicology is indelible, one of the proofs being also the pre¬
sent memorial volume the authors of which are mostly his former doctoral students. The
older generation is mostly paying their respects to their leader s achievements while their
younger colleagues reflect upon past achievements in the light of future challenges.
This book is thus a direct result of the international musicological conference
titled National Music Histories. Metamorphoses in the Second Half of the Twentieth
Century that took place in Ljubljana between

and
21
September. It was organised by
the Institute of Musicology, Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of
Sciences and Arts, together with the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts,
University of Ljubljana, and
Slovenska
matica,
two institutions most closely linked to
the scientific and pedagogical activities of Dragotin Cvetko. The conference was the cen¬
tral event of a number of memorial occasions in September

The meeting was dedi¬
cated to the life and work of Dragotin Cvetko, giving way to reflection on those
musi-

cological
trends
and schools of the later half of the twentieth century that focused on
scientific research of national music cultures.
The September meeting was conceived in four linked and intertwining subject
sections: Dragotin Cvetko

life and work; Metamorphoses of national music
histori¬
ographies·,
European music historiographies
-
selected chapters; and Musicology -from
national towards global. The discussions concluded with a round-table in the hall of
Slovenska matica
on the question What is the legacy of Dragotin Cvetko? The concep¬
tion of this book and the order of contributions follow closely the programme of the
meeting. A number of shorter contributions were, however, added later, among them
some inaugural speeches and other laudatory offerings. That is why instead of an edi¬
torial introduction the book begins with the words of the Academician, Professor
Kajetan Gantar,
Dragotin Cvetko s close friend and university colleague, who spoke
at the unveiling of the bust in front of Cvetko s birth house in
Vučja
vas.
Other lauda¬
tory texts were added at the close of the book under the title In
memoriam.
Cvetko s
open character and the range of his influence is attested also by the variety of nation¬
alities of contributors who

apart from Slovenia
-
came from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia,
Italy, Austria and England. We are especially grateful to the late Professor Pierluigi
Petrobelli, who even though already seriously ill had sent us his contribution on
Cvetko s international activities. Professor Petrobelli died this March and will unfor¬
tunately never see this book.
As this publication is partly intended to document all activities dedicated to
Dragotin Cvetko in September

the editors have added a list of all events and in
addition to this also a list of all Cvetko s MA and PhD students.
The success of the above mentioned scientific conference was of course due to collec¬
tive work and fruitful collaboration of many Slovenian musicologists. In the function of
the main organiser and editor of this book, I wish, however, to express my special grati¬
tude to some of them, first to my colleagues at the Institute of Musicology, especially
