The manifestation of student s activity in research period had been
repeatedly lighted, to a certain degree, by different authors
-
both their
contemporaries and native historians. However, the scientific analysis of
used literature had given the grounds to confirm that social-political activity
of Ukrainian students of Eastern Halychyna during mentioned period have
not been earlier the subject of special research.
In the
1
860-es educated Galician youth in spite of older
intelligents
who were gradually passing to pro-russian positions formed the new populists
cultural-political direction. Most of the founders of early-populists commu¬
nity which was called Moloda
Rus
were students. During the 60-es the
students were the majority of the community and in separate periods they
headed it.
In the middle of the 70-es of the
XIX
th century the representatives
of student s society The Academic circle the intensification of accent on
socially orientated activity became appreciable. But later unperception of
their ideal principles by the majority of representatives both russophile and
populists camp and persecution by authority were reasons that the group
of student s youth headed by I.Franko, M.Pavlyk, L.Zaklynskyj and others
formed the radical current.
The period of the 80-es of the
XIX
th century in regard to political
activity was relatively passive both for Ukrainian students and Galician
society. Only in the end of the decade the appreciable activisation was
appeared. In the time students began to lake part in working and peasant
movements, organized mass action against persecutions of their academic
freedoms and rights by authority.
The increase of student s activity in the end of the 80-es of the
XIX
th

became the preparatory stage for events of the next decade. Thus, in
1890
representatives of student s youth took the initiative for founding of
RURP. They took place in forming of main ideological principles of the

party with such famous leaders of the radical movement as I.Franko,
M.Pavlyk, K.Trylovskyj and in the first years of the existence of RURP
the majority of its members were students. The scientific-substantiated
postulate of political independence of the Ukrainian lands was also existed
among students, and in
1895
by means of their efforts the idea of
independence was included to the program of the radical party.
The student s youth was very active in social-political life especially
in the beginning of the XX th century. The students took an active part in
the agrarian strike in
1902,
in election campaigns, in the struggle for the
opening of Ukrainian university in Lviv and putting into action the right of
general and secret ballot. At the same time very many students were drawn
into work of Galician political parties, first of all URP and UCDP.
During all research period among students were representatived all
nation-political currents which existed in the whole Galician Ukrainian so¬
ciety (except the

860-es when student s youth was personification only of
populists movement). But truly say, the advantages of one of those cur¬
rents did not always mean that most of students are supporters of it. Some¬
times competitors of some nation-political orientations became leaders be¬
cause of regular instability of student s staff and other reasons in their
surroundings.
So, Ukrainian students of Eastern Halychyna during all research pe¬
riod were active participants almost of all important social-political proc¬
esses.
