It constitutes a working document, offering valuable insights into Austrian and Polish cultural characteristics, drawing on Austrian managers perceptions of their Polish subordinates as well as on established intercultural theories. It deals with the salient intercultural leadership issues pertaining to Austrian managers abroad and gives an overview about the role of trust, trust-building and betrayal of trust in Poland. What culture-related characteristics of their Polish employees do Austrian managers perceive? How can Austrian management behaviour in Poland be characterised? How do Austrian managers define trust and its role in the international management context? How are trust-building and betrayal of trust evaluated? What are possible implications for Austrian managers in Poland? The author addresses not only managers who are currently working in Central and Eastern European countries and those contemplating setting up operations in Poland, but also business students and researchers specialising in intercultural differences and their influence on leadership behaviour.
