Kidney Disorders in CMdren and Adolescents is a much-needed, up-to-
date guide to clinical management, providing the essentials of diagnosis
and treatment with an indication when referral to or consultation with the
pediatric
nephrologist is needed. The contributors to this book literally
span the globe, and many of them have had a significant impact on the
development of
pediatric nephrology
in the global sense.
The text is user-friendly with a deliberate effort made to minimize
discussion of underlying basic physiology and pathophysiology other
than that which is needed to understand clinical management. Although
the treatment of all children with Ghronic renal failure should be in the
hands of
a pediatric nephrologist,
such expertise is not available in every
locale. Furthermore, the ideal scenario is joint management by the primary
care physician and the nephrologist. The chapters on chronic renal failure,
hypertension, and transplantation will be of great help to the non-
nephrologist in understanding the details of management as prescribed
by the specialist.
