description | The Earth Observations for Sustainable Development Goals (EO4SDG) initiative serves a fundamental role to advance global knowledge about effective ways that Earth observations and geospatial information support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative seeks to advance the benefits of the SDGs through sustained, effective use of Earth observations. In this chapter, we present how EO4SDG has been working to integrate Earth observations into global SDG monitoring methodologies, and facilitate timely access to Earth observation data and interactive tools to ensure that countries can seamlessly integrate them where applicable, and that data are openly available, especially where achieving SDGs requires multinational or regional approaches and collaboration. We also present a national case study from Mexico that shares how INEGI has been working to operationalize the SDG indicator framework using Earth observations. The chapter concludes with an outlook on further mainstreaming effective Earth observation solutions in sustainable development at global to national and local levels. |
