Detrital tourmaline grains and their associated tourmaline overgrowths provide a means to unravel the provenance and petrogenetic history of low grade clastic metasedimentary rocks. Tourmaline growth stages may serve as a monitor of chemical reactions in low grade metamorphic rocks.
