The Predictive Value of Chromosome 8p Deletion for Metastasis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Summary of 10 Years" Works

description | Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents an extremely poor prognostic cancer, which is mainly due to the high frequency of metastasis/recurrence after surgical operation. To detect the specific chromosome alterations related to the metastatic potentials of HCC, we compared the differences of genomic changes between primary HCCs tumor and their matched metastatic lesions by the comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) technique. Loss of 8p was significantly more frequently detected in metastatic lesions compared with the corresponding primary HCC. This finding was further confirmed by the sensitive PCR-LOH (loss of heterozygosity) analysis. These suggest that deletion on 8p may contribute to the development of HCC metastasis(Cancer Res 1999). By the more sensitive genome-wide microsatellite analysis, 8p deletion was defined to 8p23.3 and 8pl 1.2, which were two/ikely regions harboring metastasis-related genes ofHCC (J Cancer Res Clin Onco12003). |
