description In the early twenty-first Century, Japan has introduced the idea of MFirst Year Education" (FYE). During the decade development, the universities in Japan have formed some characteristic FYE models. FYE is important for the connection of high school and university. On the other hand, the FYE is part of the quality assurance system of university. With the reform of the college entrance examination, FYE also faces some new requirements. This paper expects to analyze the characters of FYE in Japan, focusing on the curriculum development of Kyoto University and Ritsumei University, in order to understand the model of FYE in Japan
