description The present invention relates to a novel class of polymeric compounds having specific highly crosslinked cationic or amphoteric structure. These products are produced without free radical monomers ands are based upon an alkyl diamine which has been reacted to produce a di-tertiary amine compound. The diamine has alkyl groups present the contribute hydrophobicity to the molecule and once crosslinked provide outstanding benefits vis-à-vis conditioning and softening to the hair and skin. The presence of the two amine groups and selection of the proper alkyl group allows for the synthesis of a high molecular weight cationic compound which is extremely substantitive to human skin and are well tolerated by human tissue making them suitable for use preparation of barrier products for personal care applications.
