description | Context and background:The reduction in soil quality is a worrying phenomenon in Burkina Faso. Faced with this situation, farmers are developing various forms of adaptation and remediation.Goal and Objectives:The objective of this study is to analyze farmers' practices for restoring soil fertility around lowlands, in the commune of Réo(Burkina Faso).Methodology:The methodological approach is based on household surveys, interviews, observations and data analysis. The quantitative data were first translated into descriptive statistics covering frequencies, percentages and ordinary means. Then, Pearson's Chi2 correlation tests were carried out with the qualitative data. Finally, averages and total scores were calculated on the Likert R. scale (1932).Results:Theresults show that the main farming practices used on the study sites concern the use of compost/manure, mentioned by 94.09% of producers, crop association (90.91%), improved zaï ( 87.73%), flat plowing (73.73%) and the use of NPK and Urea fertilizers (67.73%). Other no less important techniques such as simple stone cordons (46.36%), crop rotation (43.18%), ridging (26.82%) and mulching (24.54%) are also used. All these farming practices produce dismal results given the constraints of their implementation, the persistent and harmful effects of climate variation and demographic pressure on the soil. |
