Magneto-optic microscopy beyond the diffraction limit: Facts, trends, and dreams

In this paper a critical review is given on the problems encountered in scanning near-field optical microscopy. Special emphasis is put on polarization sensitive measurements which are performed to study local magneto-optic effects.
