Electronic waste (E-waste) refers to electronic products that are no longer in use and nearing the end of their useful life, and will be disposed, donated, or given to recyclers. The study was conducted in the Gresik Regency (case study of Gresik and Kebomas Sub-districts) and covered technical aspects such as the number, type and age of electronic devices owned by the community, also community participation aspects, such as knowledge on E-waste, how the community handled their electronic waste, and also their willingness to be involved in the E-waste management. The potential amount of E-waste generated from household is found out by calculating the results of questionnaire filled out by the community. The knowledge and willingness of the community to carry out and be involved in the household E-waste management were assessed using the Likert scale, Guttman scale, and Chi-Square method. The results showed that the potential E-waste generation in Gresik Sub-district is 3.59 kg/person.year, while in Kebomas Sub-district is 5.86 kg/person.year. The largest generated type of electronic device was refrigerator. The community in the study area is still lacking in terms of E-waste management, but they are very interested and are willing to be actively involved if there are any plans on E-waste management programs from the local government. |
