description There have been many studies related to the influence of cognitive style on understanding skill, however, this has become a concern for teachers to assess which learning style is better in supporting students’ understanding. This study appears to analyze the best learning styles in supporting students’ understanding. This research was conducted with a quantitative descriptive approach based on the data from the understanding test on the Pythagorean theme. The research subjects were 29 eighth graders who have been chosen by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was an essay test instrument for understanding concepts and a non-test instrument in the form of a student’s cognitive style questionnaire. The data are presented in quantitative descriptive. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that the average score of students’ understanding with visualizer learning style is higher than the average score of students’ understanding with verbalizer learning style. Accordingly, it can be said that the visualizer learning style is better in supporting students’ understanding, because the Pythagorean concept is a concept that needs to be described, so students with visualizer learning style are better in understanding the Pythagorean concept.
