description The successful joining of two dissimilar materials has a wide range of applications like in the nuclear sector, oil refinery plants, heat exchangers, and chemical processing equipments. Effective welding of dissimilar material is need of the hour in recent times because of its unique mechanical properties. In this work, mechanical properties of SS 316L and IS 2062 E250A dissimilar materials welded by Tungsten inert gas welding is studied. Also, the relationship between the welding parameter and the mechanical properties is achieved by correlating the results of experiment and finite element analysis. Specimens were prepared based on the Taguchi L9 orthogonal array and thereafter finite element analysis, tensile and hardness test is carried out. The results obtained from these methods almost go hand in hand thereby giving out the parameters responsible for superior tensile strength and hardness. Apart from that the correlation gives an idea about the parameter relation to obtain good weld.
