description In this era of Great Power competition, the joint force faces strategic rivals that challenge its ability to perform operations across the range of military operations, including countering weapons of mass destruction and defending against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. While readiness reporting systems exist to determine preparedness to perform wartime requirements, the Department of Defense (DOD) lacks a CBRN defense readiness reporting program that adequately determines readiness to operate in CBRN environments. The understanding gained from such a reporting system is vital to inform resource prioritization, investment in technologies and training, effective plans development, and operations execution of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Staff, the Joint Staff, combatant commands, and Services.
