New Search Engine Finds 3D Parts Based on Shape

Using 3D-Seek, designers upload an STL file that represents the part they seek. Other file formats will be added in time, including STEP, VRML and IGES. The search technology looks at the skeleton of that part and locates parts that have a similar basic shape. Alternatively, a designer can peruse the 3D-Seek Search Gallery to locate a 3D model that's similar to the part required. If the found parts aren't exactly right, the designer can further refine the search using , a Find Similar function.
