description | A brief profile of five CMAs on their triumphs and tribulations of running their own businesses are presented. Davis Yung, president, Fresh Direct Produce, said that in 2001, his former employer sold the business; he left the company the following year. He became aware of the many consolidations in the produce industry and felt there was a strong opportunity for an independent, local and innovative company to serve the fast-changing market. Diane Lee Sousa, Founding partner, Prophet Business Group, Ltd, said that going her own way was a once-in-a-career opportunity. The company she worked for was dissolving: her colleagues and herself formed a technology company to implement Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting software and provide network design and support. Lawrence Fox, principal, AccountingWizard Solutions, said that he does bookkeeping and accounting for entrepreneurs, mostly owner-operated businesses. He first went on his own mainly because he was bored and unhappy with where he was working. |
