This result, however, supports a theoretical model on the pre-seismic electric signals and is likely to be correlated with the sensitivity of the site and hence with the selectivity. ► Transient electric signals emitted long before an earthquake are recorded in sensitive localities. ► Negative activation volume for dielectric relaxation of granodiorite from a sensitive locality was found experimentally. ► Negative activation volume, which is rarely reported in the literature, can probably be related to the sensitivity effect.
