description This paper attempts to describe some of the key features of Tunisian business cycle - classical cycle and growth cycle - during the period 1970-2002. We find that (i) contrary to the classical cycle, the growth cycle appears relatively symmetric; (ii) the probability of a low rate phase or high rate phase ending is independent of its duration, contrarily there was evidence that the probability of contraction ending of the classical cycles grows with its duration; (iii) the empiric regularities in the classical cycle and the growth cycle are, on the whole, similar to those observed in the developed countries. For the classical cycle, contractions are marked extensively by those of the European economic situation; (iv) there exists a strong synchronization between the Tunisian growth cycle and those of its main European partners.
