Development of production process and study of low-activity V - (4–5)% Ti - (4–5)% Cr structural alloys for thermonuclear reactors

Ingots of metallic vanadium with enhanced purity produced by the URALREDMET Company and of alloy V-(4-5)% Ti-(4-5)% Cr produced by VNIINM are studied. The chemical composition of ingots of metallic vanadium and of the alloy meets the performance specifications and the requirements on the alloying an...

description Ingots of metallic vanadium with enhanced purity produced by the URALREDMET Company and of alloy V-(4-5)% Ti-(4-5)% Cr produced by VNIINM are studied. The chemical composition of ingots of metallic vanadium and of the alloy meets the performance specifications and the requirements on the alloying and impurity elements. Processes of hot extrusion and cold deformation with intermediate annealing in vacuum are suggested. Sheets with a homogeneous structure are obtained. The mechanical properties of pure vanadium and of the alloy are studied as a function of the test temperature. Transmutations and activations are computed for vanadium alloy V-4% Ti-4% Cr for the neutron spectra of fission and fusion reactors. The obtained alloy belongs to the class of low-activity materials.
