Differential electronic nose of two chemo sensor arrays for odor discrimination

The paper reports an improved method for electronic nose that combines two identical or very similar sensor arrays mounted into two packages, each containing one array. The distance between the measured sensor signals of the odor samples is then analyzed by two independent but identical sensor array...

description The paper reports an improved method for electronic nose that combines two identical or very similar sensor arrays mounted into two packages, each containing one array. The distance between the measured sensor signals of the odor samples is then analyzed by two independent but identical sensor arrays. The difference of the appropriate sensor signals generated by both arrays is subject to 2-dimensional convolution, greatly enhancing the sensitivity of the nose. The presented system is called the “differential electronic nose” (DEN-nose). The experiments of the recognition of the cigarette smells have proved that the proposed nose system based on the difference of data, generated by two different sensor arrays have significantly enhanced the ability of E-nose for recognition of the close odors.
