Ornithine Carbamoyltransferase Activity in Plasma of Mice with Malaria as an Index of Liver Damage

Zusammenfassung:INCREASED concentrations of glutamic oxalacetic and glutamic pyruvic transaminases have been detected in the serum of mice infected with Plasmodium berghei , and they are thought to be connected with changes in the liver 1–4 . Transaminases, however, are found in tissues other than liver 5 and are present in high concentrations in erythrocytes. Thus in clinical disorders associated with haemolysis, such as malaria, enzyme from lysed erythrocytes may contribute significantly to serum concentrations 2 .
