Zusammenfassung:In a female child with burns the frequency of sex chromatin was unexpectedly low, but returned to normal in a week. Because of this finding buccal smears were examined for sex chromatin daily for the first week after burning in 30 female children. An initial depression of the frequency of sex chromatin was found; and in some patients there was also a morphological abnormality of the sex-chromatin bodies. By comparison with results of parallel observations in children admitted to hospital for other reasons, the lower sex-chromatin frequency in the patients with burns was statistically significant. These effects on sex chromatin are probably due to increased adrenocortical activity after burning.
