description Isolated congenital mitral regurgitation is a rare resultant of developmental abnormalities of the mitral valve. This defect is related to the valve itself and is due to an inadequate leaflet, a dilated annulus, or abnormally positioned chordae. Two 4 year old girls with classic clinical and radiographic evidence of mitral regurgitation were studied by cardiac catheterization and selective cineangiocardiography. The pulmonary arterial wedge pressure pulse tracings revealed the characteristic contour of moderately severe mitral regurgitation. Selective left ventricular cineangiocardiograms demonstrated severe mitral regurgitation. The clinical, hemodynamic and angiocardiographic findings are compared with those noted in 33 other reported cases.
