The independence of spermatid differentiation from the meiotic divisions

Testes of a Neuropteran insect were treated in vivo with mercaptoethanol. Spermatids with two and four axes were produced in less than 2 hr. It is concluded that spermatid differentiation can go on while the meiotic divisions are inhibited.
