Zusammenfassung:The applications of analog and digital computers to different kinds-of problems were discussed in this paper. The analog computer is extremely useful in simulating and carrying out particular calculations. The digital computer is most helpful in processing data when a large quantity of logical decisions will be performed during the processing, carrying out statistical studies, and in the storage and retrieval of large quantities of data. There are problems currently under study where some portions are more suitable for analog computation and other portions are more suitable for digital computation. In these instances, combined analog and digital processing is desirable. A possible example of the use of a combined computer system might be the simulation of a complex biological system where it is necessary to base decisions in the simulation on previous analog data. This data can be converted to digital form, stored in digital form, and reconverted to analog form when needed. It is also possible to generate complex functions in the digital computer and convert these functions to analog form with a digital-to-analog converter for use in an analog computer simulation program. Using modern computation technics, it is possible to obtain a greater understanding of the functioning of complex biological systems. These technies will also aid clinicians and researchers in routine tasks, assist in the teaching of medicine and biology, and help to improve diagnostic technics.
