End-Stage Renal Disease in Jamaica: How Patients Cope in a Developing Society

Psychosocial factors are important considerations for social workers treating patients with chronic renal disease. The authors of this article studied all adult patients in Jamaica who were receiving or had received successful treatment for end-stage renal disease. The patients, in spite of the lack of extensive social services, were able to cope with financial problems and psychosocial difficulties because of informal assistance.
