Zusammenfassung: | Actively growing cultures of
Escherichia coli A.T.C.C. 9723 treated with minimum bacteriostatic concentrations of penicillin for short periods of time maintain the ability to synthesize protein which appears in the extracellular medium. At the same time, there is accumulation of an extracellular substance having high absorption at 260 mμ. This substance has been tentatively identified as uracil. |
