Zusammenfassung:An automated method for the determination of serum iron is described. The main improvement of the new procedure is the reduction of the necessary sample volume to 0.15 ml. Good agreement was obtained between serum iron values determined according to the described automated procedure and a manual method of Ramsay. The small discrepancy between the two methods was investigated. Moreover, ferrioxamine-bound iron can be determined in human urine using the same automated system.
