Zusammenfassung:It appeared that living cells had developed elaborate mechanisms to control the transmembrane distribution of phospholipids. The resulting lipid asymmetry could no longer be considered as a passive and unimportant phenomenon. This paper will focus on the dynamic aspects of lipid asymmetry in eukaryotes. Present ideas on the role of transmembrane lipid traffic will be discussed.
