Zusammenfassung: | Differences in the birth outcomes of married vs unmarried mothers are examined based on delivery records (N = 29,865) from the obstetrics & gynecology department of a large inner-city hospital in Cleveland, OH, 1975-1993. Considered in addition to marital status were maternal race & insurance pay status. Results indicate that deliveries by unmarried, insured & uninsured mothers increased by 20%, & among all race groups. An increase was seen in the proportion of privately insured white & black unmarried teenage mothers. Results lead to concern regarding characteristics of & fetal outcome among unmarried mothers. 3 Tables, 3 Figures, 10 References. S. Jameson |
