Thermodynamic reassessment of the magnesium–gallium system

The Mg–Ga system has been thermodynamically assessed by the CALPHAD method. Solutions including liquid and hcp (Mg) were treated as substitution solution, of which the excess Gibbs energies were formulated with the Relich–Kister polynomial. The five intermetallic phases, Mg 5Ga 2, Mg 2Ga, MgGa, MgGa...

Zusammenfassung:The Mg–Ga system has been thermodynamically assessed by the CALPHAD method. Solutions including liquid and hcp (Mg) were treated as substitution solution, of which the excess Gibbs energies were formulated with the Relich–Kister polynomial. The five intermetallic phases, Mg 5Ga 2, Mg 2Ga, MgGa, MgGa 2 and Mg 2Ga 5, were described as stoichiometric compounds. Based on the reported experimental data of phase diagram and thermodynamic properties, a set of self-consistent parameters describing all phases in the Mg–Ga system has been obtained.
