Exposure of Hidden Antigenic Determinants in Human IgG by Digestion with Spleen Proteases

Fragments of human IgG produced by digestion with spleen proteases were tested for capacity to react with “agglutionators” present in human sera. Antigenic sites, apparently buried in the intact IgG, were exposed by these enzymes. Hemagglutination-inhibition tests indicated that the fragments produc...

Zusammenfassung:Fragments of human IgG produced by digestion with spleen proteases were tested for capacity to react with “agglutionators” present in human sera. Antigenic sites, apparently buried in the intact IgG, were exposed by these enzymes. Hemagglutination-inhibition tests indicated that the fragments produced were similar to but not identical with those produced by digestion with pepsin or papain.
