The author briefly assesses the relative success of this 'civilizing mission' before looking at the one great omission of Foucault's critiques: his seeming lack of interest or knowledge about the 'insurrection of subjugated knowledges' in the colonized world which compromise his attempt to trace the genealogy of governmentality and biopolitics in the West.
